View Full Version : Lowepro lens cases - use at wedding?

I am trying to decide whether it will be appropriate for me to use a couple of my Lowepro S&F Lens cases attached to my belt for weddings that I will be shooting this year.
This way I don't have to lug my camera bag around wherever I go.
I could just have two lens cases (one with my 70-200 and one with either my Tamron or 10-22 in it)
And then have my camera around my neck.

What do you guys think? Would this look un-professional?

I am no pro but two thoughts come to mind. 1) It would be more unprofessional to not have the equipment you need at hand, 2) It's a wedding, you will likely not be the focus of attention!

Yes.

You should be wearing a jacket and tie at the wedding and it is inappropriate to have things hanging off your belt that way. I felt self conscious with my Quantum battery on my belt and that's a lot smaller than a lens case.

Get a bag that holds all of your stuff. You hold what you need to and then go to the bag to switch. You do not want to look like a sherpa hauling gear up a mountain. And YOU ARE the centre of attention, at least at the church, since you are the only thing moving.

I wore 2 small lens bags on my belt at my last wedding. They were both black and did not stand out. To me, it is more unprofessional to not be prepared with the correct equipment. However, at my next wedding I'm going to have two camera bodies around my neck which may elliminate the need for a belt bag.

One of the local wedding photographers has a wooden box that's about the size of a footlocker. He keeps all of his gear in it and stands on it to use his tripod.

I do still plan on wearing a jacket & tie, don't know what I am going to do. Honestly I can't even really remember what the photographer wore at my weddings, so I am not sure that too many people would notice as long as I don't have a Iron Maiden T-shirt and blue-jeans on :)

Ditto

Nobody cares about the photog... he's not a guest and he's there to simply do a job.

You are not a guest if you are the wedding photographer, but you are a representative of the bride and groom & their families. It's those people who will have to explain you their guests. "We had no idea he was such an ******* ..."

If you look like a scruff it's going to reflect badly on your employers, and that's just a great way to get more business.

I just got done the wedding wearing a dress shirt, dress pants and a jacket. I had two lens cases on my belt. Nobody even looked twice at me.

Well, I have to admit, I have strong antisocial tendencies and also have no clue about american customs/etuiquette.

But it'd take me much more than a quantum powerback to feel uncomfortable about my dress.

Those are Canadian customs too.
