taking on a second shooter...

Okay, so I originally posted this question in the wedding thread, but didn't get a lot of responses and was told (amongst other things) I might get more "bites" if I posted here, so here goes...

I'm interested in wedding photography and before I put myself through courses (if that's even wise...), I would like to act as a second shooter to someone who does this sort of thing. I'm not (initially) looking to get paid, I'm much more interested in the experience and learning from a pro / semi-pro. I'm in London and because photography isn't my day job (yet... though that's the plan!!), I'm pretty much only available on the weekends. Not sure what else I can add here, but if anyone thinks they'd be interested in letting me tag along and showing me a few things, please feel free to get in touch.

Your best bet is to place an ad in the services offered area - and then try and make connections here on POTN. I am sure there must be someone who is willing to have you at least haul their gear around during a wedding and be a true assistant first - and then possibly move into a second shooter position. A lot can be learned without getting an education from a school that will run you thousands of dollars/pounds. Put yourself out there - good luck!

If you were close to me I'd bring you to my weddings... I like to have an extra hand/shooter.
