Took these of the front of a local Church, and I'm not sure if I like the one showing both doors, or the one with the one door below the steeple. I wasn't able to get back far enough to get the whole height of the steeple in. even with my 18-125mm lens.

I like the the two-door shot because it's just more colorful than the one-door. :)

I prefer the single door shot. Don't ask why I just do :) :)

Nice shots Sandy, I prefer the second.

Thanks for the comments. I think the second one, the single door works better because of the vertical lines and better composition of the subject. the first is more colorful but I guess I'm leaning more to the second one the more I compare them. Just wish I was able to get all of the steeple in. :(

One door for me, with the two it is hard to decide where to look.

Just to repeat what's already been said, I like the colors of the first one better, but I'd pick the second one because of the composition.

Thanks all for the comments, Marie I couldn't agree more with what you said. The windows cut off bothered me as did the steeple. The Church is located on the part of the town green and there was an event scheduled for Saturday ( http://www.shadderby.com/ ) so they had fences all over bright orange plastic ones, yuck! so I couldn't get back far enough, and if I was on the other side of the fence it would have been in the photo. I will definetly go back and try again, it really is a beautiful building, trouble is there's a lot of stuff around it.

Only one suggestion, Sandy. Get an EF-S 10-22mm (assuming you have a camera it will fit). I have always been frustrated by churches and other interesting buildings that seem to always have something that gets in the way of a good shot. The 10-22 has really opened that avenue for me to get the shots without power lines, etc.

Thanks Reigh, I tend to agree. Stan I've got the 10D so no problem with something to mount it on, the problem is something to buy it with :)
I shot that with my Sigma 18-125 but with the 1.6 factor you really do need that little extra.

thanks Sandy
I looked at that url.
I can't imagine you on the other side of the fence http://www.photography-on-the.net/forum/images/smilies/icon_lol.gif
especially a bright orange plastic one.
sounds almost like a police security thing
maybe you can go back when the shad derby festival is over and the fence has gone

Actually, you do have a problem with something to mount it on. The 10-22 is an EF-S lens. The 10D can't use those. Only the 20D and Digital Rebels support EF-S.

Thanks Lonnie you just saved me a ton of money, course you also crushed my dreams.   However I think Sigma or Tamaron have come out with some in the digital series that are close.

Sigma Zoom Super Wide Angle 12-24mm f/4.5-5.6 EX Aspherical DG HSM Autofocus Lens for Sigma SA $669.00 @ B&H and this one is coming soon 10-20mm F4-5.6 EX DC HSM AVAILABLE SOON
so I guess not all is lost. I've been very pleased with my Sigma 18-125 could build quality and that's now become my prime lens. Someday maybe L-glass, soon as I hit the LOTTO.

Hey Lonnie, how have you been? No 10-22, but I did move up to the 30D and my carry round lens is the Sigma 18-200mm, also have the Tamron 70-300mm nice lens, and I just picked up the Sigma 50mm f1.8 macro, one very sharp lens.
As an aside my sons in Burbank this week on a business trip, said he's gone through temperature shock, leaves Connecticut at 60d and lands in a blast furnace.:lol:

I think this could make an interesting high contrast black and white.

I left Burbank last August. I still work there, but now I live in Palmdale. That's in the high desert, about 55 miles northeast of Burbank. If your son thinks Burbank is hot, he should come here and try this weather out...

OMGoodness Sandy :o
all the old smilies back there make me blush

that was when I was a child
I overloaded the smilies
:| no wonder there had to be some control on their appearance
(8allowed at any one time now)
lol

I am ashamed of how I used them....... when I was so young and foolish
(as if things have changed much)

OH! to be young and foolish again. We were all so crazy back in the good old days, just pasting smilies heather and yon with great abandon. :o ;) ;)

Liking the 2 door shot...weird to have a church with red doors isn't it? Or maybe i;m just not down with what Jesus thinks is cool...

A little uncommon but not all that rare here. I think they were trying to find a color that goes well with the brownstone.
