Alright so something I have noticed lately are that my photoshop skills with intention to creativity and design suck. I need a new logo for my website (turfimages.com) and am looking for some help with it.
Here is the catch.
Anyone can enter into this "contest", I will judge which one i like the most, and the Winner will get a gift from the POTN store for around $50 USD. I can go alittle more but I figured what the heck 50 is a nice round number.
If you would like to use some/one of my images feel free to let me know and i can get you some. Thanks guys!
EDIT:
THE LAST DAY TO SHOOT ME IDEAS IS FRIDAY SEPTEMBER 11, 2009. I WILL DECIDE ON SATURDAY SEPTEMBER 12, 2009.
SUBMISSIONS:
Here is my entry:
i'll give it a shot. simple and elegant.
How something like this ... I couldn't find a decent grass sample at the moment, but if you like I'm sure we can find something better.
here's my entry....business card w/ the logo
Here are some i threw together in about 5 minutes. its really hard to figure out what you want. do you have anything in mind you want? i can keep trying if you give me a little more info..
thanks

Dave - turfimages.com won't load for me. Are you tinkering with the system right now?
I'd be happy to take a look, and toss some ideas your way.
EDIT: Never mind, seems to be up now :)

I'm up for this. Perhaps it would help if you gave us an idea of what you're looking for? Did you have any former logos?

None for this site.. since it is a new one.. but one requirement is that it says "sports Photography" somewhere.

playing off the turf theme... as many others have, too. i'll try to think of something sports related by friday. you shoot more than soccer, so it's hard to come up with something for sports generally

not only already done... but also rejected
color is nice... i like your emblem... i think the OP should consider taking the best submissions, tell us what he likes about each of them... then people can submit a final design for judging. not sure how quickly he needs the logo, but this way he could get what he wants. the prize is nice, but i think the spirit of this forum is really to help each other out. just hoping he gets an end product he can truly be proud to display.

I don't think a specific sports icon is necessarily a bad approach. The sub line of "Sports Photography" implies diversity. I agree the grass has a landscaping feel but maybe applied in a different graphic? One with, one without.

why is the white circle around the ball so rippled looking?
I think the concept is great with the ball in the lens, but it sorta conveys that he only shoots one type of sport. maybe some would think otherwise.
i would prefer the R and the F not touching. have you tried placing the camera between the TURF and IMAGES? i think it might help tie everything together but it might also throw everything off since it will look elongated
Nighthound
9th of September 2009 (Wed), 12:50
The ripples are the grip texture found on DSLR lenses. Looking at it now it would be cleaner with a smooth edge.
The sub line of "Sports" photography makes it pretty clear(to me anyways) that the photographer shoots more than one particular sport. That's a very valid point of concern that may be an issue for Dave.
I didn't explore many configurations in this version but the camera could easily be positioned within stacked type, flush left, etc. Placing it in the center would create a very elongated graphic which could become troublesome in some applications. Variations on a design and/or color studies could be done before finished art is finalized.

This is just a 30-second concept mockup, but envision your logo as the midfield design at the 50 yard line...
work on the text tilt/perspective with a little transparency... maybe a circular logo with some Stencil-font text going around it...

Hmmm i really really like the design nighthound... Thats a great idea!
Nathan
9th of September 2009 (Wed), 15:08
I like Nighthound's approach, though I still think that a sports specific logo is misleading.
Here's an idea and Nighthound can easily touch up his current submissions: Each time you reload the homepage, a different ball appears in the camera - baseball, basketball, soccer ball, tennis ball, golf... the only tricky one is the football and maybe rugby.
Business cards can be ordered with each ball and then the stack can be shuffled.
Can I get a prize for that idea? Design wise, I think Nighthound is off to a great start.

Dave - I am not a great graphic artist, but this was fun and I enjoyed the process.
In keeping with the sports theme, I chose shoes - simply because you can't play on turf without them. I stole the image of the sports photographer HERE (http://img148.imageshack.us/img148/9950/wwwonlinerws59zz1.jpg) and simply traced the guy in the orange shirt. The copyright on that photo belongs to someone else, so you'd need to take a self portrait in that same pose and have me re-trace it (provided you like it at all).
Hope this helps - great entries so far everyone! :)
PS - I know the purists will howl that that I have not correctly drawn a tripod. Too bad, I needed an A. :p

See what you REALLY need is:
A Person wearing:
Ice skating boots
Shin pads from football
knee pads from rollerskating
shorts from running (spandex )
a basket ball jersy
NFL chest padding
nascar racing gloves
ski goggles
and a cycling helmet
Along with these items the person should be stood in a base ball stance holding a tennis racket about to hit a rugby ball
Cherching...ill take 25 for the idea you can pay the other 25 to some crazy person who would want to put all that on!
That i hope would give somone ideas your into sport photography :D

i like this one... however, we charge much more than 50 bucks for logo design as would any other graphic designer.
I'd take this one and run with it before the designer decides to charge you for it! :) maybe a red ring though... for the L series lens
