Ok. So I posted previously about this event. I shot practices and then the event which was May 1st. Challengers pierced 2507 needles in 6 hours. They probably broke the record of number of temporary piercings in one setting and also the time it was done in. Steve Deerwood of Minneapolis was the piercee and Jeremy Van Wert of Bemidji was the piercer. See their website bemidjichallenge.com for more info.
These are the photos of the event itself.

Heavy piercings......if yr squeamish about needles, I'd suggest not looking.

This is a "sport"?

I'd say it's an interest. Sport would imply increasing fitness through physical exertion..this is more a recreational activity.

There are some great angles in those photos, very interesting :)

OMG! This guy is looking for some serious negative attention.
Interesting shots though. ;)
BTW, Is Photobucket a free photo hosting site? That would explain the "POP UPS". Time to run Adaware again.

Ok. Thanks for the comments. Response to the negatives - he was challenging the Guinness World Record for number of temporary piercings done in one setting......instead of just trying to beat a record, the organizers decided to ask for donations per needle and the funds are bing used to donate to a local domestic abuse project and to start an organization called Initiatives for Peaceful Change which will have several focuses - one being teaching men to educate men on the issues of violence and domestic abuse...something that is little done as the main focus has been educating women about domestic abuse.
Does the piercee need some therapy for doing this? Probably not. He's a mentally healthy individual who decided to challenge his body much like other people on fear factor, etc....he won't be doing it again. One time event. Is he craving negative attention? No, he has solid stable relationships with a lot of people and doesn't need attention from this event. It was a personal challenge for both he and the piercer.
Feel free to ask more questions, I'll try to answer them.

Thanks for the explanation Cynthia. His goals and reasons for doing this are commendable, and good luck to Him. :D

I'll second Bruce. At a glance, lets be honest, without knowing what is behind, is just looks crazy and strongly in need of psychiatric help.

I have beeen one of the first with negative comments. Now that I know what's behind I sure back off and wish good luck to the guy. But I would have preferred to know what it was all about beforehand.

The only thing that was said was

And that sounded really weird, IMHO.

Sorry guys! The original post (and this one for that matter) have a link to the website for the challenge. The first page explains the attempt and donations and why they were involved in domestic abuse. Jeremy, the piercer, was doing one needle about every 9 seconds which is the stat for the number of women abused - ie one woman every 9 seconds, is abused in the United States......so even the piercer had his objectives. He's also one of the Red Lake Band of Ojibway in Minnesota, which of late, has been in the national news with the shooting in the high school up there....so he has/had even more intent behind getting a record for Guinness.
Thanks for the comments. I"m glad I posted more info - it was necessary and I apologize for not giving you it all to begin with.
