Some of the qualities that make a good photo editing monitor and a good gaming monitor are mutually exclusive. Mainly response time. You don't want lag when you're playing an FPS.
Also... true gaming monitors can't display CAPS! ;)

Why not dual monitor setup? I have a 1080p monitor for video watching and a better monitor for photo stuff.
You can get the dell 2209WA for about that price too.

theyre all TN panels, you can tell by their 2ms response times or 160/170 degree viewing angles. none are specifically good for photo editing

if it doesnt absolutely have to be a 24 inch monitor the Dell 2209WA is a wonderful option at just over 200 bucks.

Good gaming monitors don't equal good photo monitors. The only exception is in the narrow line of PVA type 8bit monitors like the dell 2408WFP (faster refresh rate than IPS, much better color and contrast than TN), but that's about $450. 2209WA is your best choice here, and 22" is still plenty large.

There are no compromise solutions available.
I use a pair of Dell/Sony Trinitrons, a 21 and 19inch.
Super fast response times, viewing angle doesn't matter, sharp, and with perfect colour reporduction and able to display a full range of tones with out banding.
And, they cost me US$10.
The only problem is finding one, as they stopped making them about 8 years ago.
There are still plenty floating around second hand though, you just have to find one that is close, and make sure you have a large desk

Yep I got beautiful Dell 21" sitting in my garage....my desk is not large enough and my back is not strong enough to lug it all the way to the top.
