I think you captured the emotion well. Composition wise, your subject is dead center in the image.

This is a great expressive image.
It would be a good candidate for a caption-writing contest.
My contribution: "I thought the trail would have more downs than ups."

I like this alot.and the composition for me works this time. Have you tried lightening up his eye area a tad?

Thanks for the positive comments.
This was one of those quick snaps that initially you don't think about until you review the days shoot when you get home and notice something.
Not much pp work apart from the b & w conversion and crop. Might try lightening the eye area now though

Great lighting on the face and capture of an expression. It reminds me of how I felt after some really tiring backpacking trips. The part of the composition that bothers me is that the face is dead center and all of the leading lines converge dead center directly behind his head.

Flo, I was thinking more along the lines that if that guy wasn't blocking the view, I would have a better view of the mountain valley. :p

I think that's really it, Bill. The view behind the subject looks fantastic and competes with the subject.

I feel like the composition is spot on in this scenario. Great photo!

I was a little skeptical of the dead-center shot at first, but the more I look, the more I think it works here. The vignetting in the corners and the converging lines all lead you back to that tired face. No matter where you look in the photo, your eyes are drawn back to him. Very nice.

I like the dead center. Keep it for sure.
