Sadly I've not had chance to get out and about and test out my new cam/lens combination yet, so I've been restricted to the confines of the house to try it out!
Just wondering what anyone else thought about the sharpness of the Tamron 28-75 I've got (hear stories every now and then of a dodgy lens creeping through the Tamron QC!)
Nothing exciting - just a pic of my monitor (also new! :)). This was taken hand held, indoors, F4.0, 1/60 at ISO 400. Second pic is 100% crop from first pic - no sharpening or PS type stuff, just cropped from original.

F4 is usually sharp, take some wide-open. But from these, looks fine.

Like mentioned above - try it wide open both at 28 and 75mm. Mine is significantly sharper at 75 then at 28.... would love to know if this is just mine or typical. But if this result holds - you are good to go. Congradulations and enjoy your new lens.

looks good to me as well. I just picked up the same lens for my 300D, took similar shots of my laptop just to test. Mine appeared to have the same amount of detail, I have "heard" about some bad lenses but seems like we both got good ones......if there is truely a bad batch.
On a side note my first pics I was blown away. Just shot some bluejay in the yard, the clarity and color composition was sharp with a full crop. Very impressed and happy with my purchase.

Looks very sharp. Although the ones I've had problems with have had problems at the wide 28 mm and the long end at 75 mm. So test the extremes at f/2.8 and see what gives... especially from a distanse further away than 3 meters.

Damn, that looks very sharp. Show us F2.8 at 28 and 75mm.

Thanks for all the input everyone - I shall try and do some tests at either end of it's range at F2.8 as soon as I can!
I'll keep you posted...

I think mine would achieve the same from some of the house shots I've taken with it, so both either sharp or knackered   I think it looks good. Nice rich colour and contrast ... a tad of USM would give it that ultra sharp look.
This lens is softer at the wide end, but I knew that when I bought mine ... my Tokina overlaps it anyway and that is nice and sharp at 35mm.
