Hello:
I am new to digital photography and have a few questions. I have a Canon PowerShot S1 IS and would like to know what would be a good tripod to use with it. I have also been looking in to the additional lenses that are available for my camera and want to know how beneficial they would be for a "digital beginner". I am also curious if I can get a manual for the camera that has larger print than the one it comes with - I find it very hard to read all the text.

Thanks very much for taking the time to read my questions and I greatly appreciate any advise or tips you can pass along :o)

Check the canon usa site and see if you can download the PDF version of the manual during printing select the page you need and check box that saids expand/shrink to fit paper. This works most of the time.

I guess I'm open as far as the price range is concerned, within reason. I read some info from the link you provided and gather that when chosing a tripod, weight of the camera and lenses are the biggest consideration. Would you agree? At present I am using the camera with the lens it came with. I will be using the tripod for nature and portraits. Also wanted to say Thank You for your suggestion about printing the pdf version of the manual. I followed your advise and it worked great!!

Good to hear that it works.

I purchased a cheapy tripod from Microcenter and it work well for P&S camera. It was a Samsonite and I paid I think $7. I have since out grew it and also looking to buy a new tripod. During that time I've bought a Monopod and enjoy the flexibility while on the road. Monopod are great for traveling because its light and easy to stow away.

Try looking for a Slik Tripod its light and inexpensive but its decently built. Although its not for me, I think it makes for a nice first Tripod. But if are looking for a less expensive solution try Microcenter I think they still have the Tripod for $7.
