Please help...580exii + skyports + vivitar 285?

Hello everyone!

I was wondering if some of you kind lighting experts could give me a few pointers on how to go about setting up a 580 ex ii with a cheap second flash triggered by skyports.

I currently own a 580 exii and im in the market for a cheaper second flash and some skyports (PW's are a little too pricey).

My goal is to trigger both off camera for ski jump photos this winter.

What is the simplest way to go about doing this with the best outcome?

I was looking at the vivitar285hv for a second flash but heard here were some issues with that and the skyports. Any help would be greatly appreciated!

I dont know about skyports, I use cybersync's but what are you wanting to know specifically?
Just put the 580ex in manual mode and a wireless reciever on each flash.

I use the skyport with lumopro flashes with absolutely no problem. Its a great manual flash that packs lots of features for the price. You might want to take a look at it on mpex.com

Here's a suggested bill of materials you will need.
1) Universal set of Skyports (http://www.bhphotovideo.com/bnh/controller/home?O=productlist&A=details&Q=&sku=505381&is=REG) + one extra receiver
2) Screw lock cable (http://www.flashzebra.com/wizardcables/screwlock.shtml) to connect the 580 EX II to the Skyport receiver.
3) Hot shoe adapte (http://www.flashzebra.com/products/0138/index.shtml)r for the other flash that has a cable designed to connect to the Skyport receiver.
4) Swivel Mount like this umbrella mount (http://www.flashzebra.com/products/0200/index.shtml). One for each flash.
5) Clamps (http://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/371927-REG/Impact_KCP_700B26_Super_Clamp_with_Standard.html) of some sort to mount your setup in the field.

Here's my setup used for basketball. Impact super clamp mounted on railing with a hot shoe adapter connected to a Skyport receiver, Quantum Battery 1+ supplying power to the flash.

Thanks! Are there any other flashes that produce a good amount of light around that price range? how are the sunpaks? i was looking to spend around 100.00 or less if possible on the flash.

That's a Canon 540 EZ shown in the pic above. It works well in manual with flash output adjustable from 1/1 - 1/128th.
