Hi All,

i have done a quick search and looked through the PW PDF file, and still i am unsure of the correct way to set the channels.

I have the CE units and i am looking to test to see which channel will work best with my noisy 580 II flashes.

So in the PW utility i can see that on the flex 5 (i have 2, one for the camera and other for the flash). What i am looking to setup is wireless ETTL mode for the moment.

So in the Manual it says there are 20 Control TL channels in the US version, however only 3 in the CE version. Does this mean i only have 3 Control channels to set my units to? Not sure how this works.

I understand that there are 'normal' channels as well. these would be Standard TX channels. on there i have 32 of these.

I have heard that people have had the best luck on setting their units to channel 20, does this mean for ETTL? If so how to i get to channel 20 on the flex through the utility for ETTL? or are the CE units only limited to 3 different channels?

When using ControlTL channels, are the standard channels used for ETTL? Or just the 3 ControlTL channels?

Sorry guys if this seems like a silly question, however i didn't find the PDF file with the flex to be overly helpful.

if someone could help me out there that would be much appreciated.

cheers

I've just logged in and am typing via my Gameboy DSi, just to answer your question. Im on te road, and the computers @home ;)

it's true that CE pw flex/mini are limited to only 3 ETTL [controlTL] channels. its due to the europian liscencingrestrictions on that freq.

so, you only haveto try each of those 3 to see which gives you the best range w/ ur 580.

those 32 other channels are only for dumb triggering. No TTL. used when youre mixing with standard PW u its.

the beauty of this is that you can (for instance) have a std. pw firing a background light while simultaneously using you 580 in ettl for the subject. the flex transmits both ControlTL and the standard channel simultaniously.

pardon the typos, this gameboy is a pain to type on
