anyone know where I can get just some inexpensive plates for my cameras? I have a nice RRS L bracket for my main body which I LOVE, but I also have a bronica, A2 and some other bodies lying around I'd love to be able to use with either of my tripods (each has an acra style clamp)... I bought a cheap dealextreme ballhead which came with a plate for ~$50, but now I just want a few more plates like that?

Anyone know where I can get a very basic/generic plate? The photo clam plates would be perfect but I can't even find how to buy one?

i bought a generic plate from adorama. you might also look at benro plates on ebay. they even make custom plates (like RRS) but cheaper.

Yes, Adorama's Flashpoint heads are A-S and the plate for their largest (488RC2 equivalent size) is only around $15.

I buy these from Kirk photo on eBay. Work really nice.

Only thing about that, Kris, is the shipping . . . The Flashpoint ones don't have the alignment pins I'll admit but are about the same size.

They'll combine shipping if you call and order more than one.

Giottos plates also work. In fact, Giottos has a generic L-plate available. It is not as slick as the RRS L-plates but, you can use one on any camera.

I have a RRS L-plate for my 30-D which is my primary plate when using a camera/lens without a tripod-ring. However, I also have a 10D, a 40D and an old D60 (modified for full-time infra-red photography) and I occasionally like to use one of these cameras on a tripod. The fifty dollar Giottos L-plate fits any of these cameras and allows me to place the camera in the vertical position without cantilevering it over to the side of the head.

I have several from Hejnar Photo on eBay which seem well made and work well on lesser used cameras where I don't want to invest in an expensive L-plate.
