just bought a canon 20D, and when i got home and looked at the kit lens something doesnt look right at the back end of the lens-surely there should be some glass, i can poke my finger inside etc ????,

do the pictures come out ok?
just a thought but since its an ef-s lens is this not normal? short-back...
p.s. where'd you buy it from?

Looking at the bottom picture ... there is a lens there where you say you have a hole.

well no the pics didnt look great,lohad what looked liked little white dots lots of... or dead pixels, im also suspecting that there may be something wrong with the camera also as my 70-200L f4 isnt perfoming as well as what it did on my 350D,most pics r blurry. bought the canon 20D from jessops this afternoon...

The rear lens element moves in and out when you zoom. At the wide extreme it is really close to you at the long extreme it is like over an inch inside the lens body.

That looks fine to me, what Lost said; the rear lens element moves considerably as you zoom, if you zoom out to 18mm the rear element should be right at the back of the lens.
