I have just bought a g10 and i like taking surfing photos from land, since there is a fair distance between me and the surfer i usually use my pentax k200 with 300mm telephoto, but i've heard there are telephoto lenses that fit onto the g10's lens. would a 3 times lens for the g10 zoom in well without blurring or distorting? If so then i will sell the pentax and get the 3x lens

thanks.

Also do you know what the equivelant in mm the g10 with telephoto would get without distorting?

It will help but you will get darker pictures. Possibly some vignetting.

You should visit the Lensmate website to see teleconversion (http://www.lensmateonline.com/newsite/G10tele.html)lens options for the G10. I have the G9 and use the Canon 2x tele lens. I have not seen any reputable 3x conversion lenses for the G9 or G10.

if you have been shooting with a k200d i feel like you will be dissapointed in the telephoto results of the g10

I want to try this setup for my husbands G9 - Do you have any pics? Comments?

The lens is rather large, but works well with the G9. The built-in IS of the camera is not going to give you the sharpest image with slow shutter speeds, so I will try to use a a tripod if available. Here is one of the first shots I took using a tripod to decide image quality with the tele lens.

A tight crop of this;

Here is a shot of an eagle's nest in the center of a nearby lake, it is about 100 yards away. It was taken using a small tripod (Ultrapod II) on a VERY windy day.

It made me wish I had a 3x tele lens... The Canon 2x lens works well, within the proper range and with care to the details of the shot. It's not very good for "birding" shots as shown above.

It always helps to see the actual capabilities at work. Remember, this conversion lens makes the 6x lens a 12x optical, when more people seem to want a built-in 20x or more.

Raynox makes a 2.2x lens, but the results aren't really better or that much magnification. Here's an older review/blog about the G9 using Raynox lenses that you and he may enjoy reading.
