I went to the "Arts, Beats, & Eats" Festival in Pontiac, MI., Saturday, mainly to shoot the Joan Jett concert. Two hours early, I found a great seat in the 5th row next to the aisle & just behind the VIP seats. I figured that it would be a fair spot to shoot from.
Soooo..., when the Jett concert started, security decided to stand at the fence across the center aisle & the big dude just in front of me waved his arms in the air through the whole concert. So much for PPPPPP? I'd have traded the seat for the 3 songs rule if I could have had media access.

Some of these aren't as sharp as I would have liked, but I learned a few things in the process. Besides, for a $2 concert, I had a great time!

It looked as if Joan did too!

WOW. Those are beautiful! Love the catch of musicianship. :) And I heard there is going to be a movie about her life. She can't be that old. ;)

Nice pics. I have always liked Joan Jett. She is still a hottie. Thanks for sharing.

seems prices were fairly cheap Before the economy tanked, the concerts were free. Parking was $7 though. Does that make sense to you? ;) I have always liked Joan Jett. Me, too. She's an original.
Thanks for the comments!

See, that's why I can't go to concerts. I would have been the guy to start the fight with the idiot waving his arms being disrespectful to the people behind him. I yelled at a motorcycle cop that parked his bike between me and the Yankee Lady a few years ago. I startled him pretty good so he moved but at a concert it would have been ugly for sure.

Was the concert at night? It looks like the environment was really dark. It also looks like there was some flash being used. But I think the shots turned out pretty good. I'll be shooting the Marine Corps show I was telling you about Friday night. The 70-200 2.8 IS will be here on Thursday. I'm hoping it will help me get some good shots.

I would have loved to see Joan Jett in concert too. Our kids would have loved it as well. I didn't know she was going to be there. Damn...

Jon.

Apart from some technicalities they aren't too bad for the circumstances. But ISO 3200 is tricky on a 20D...

I like #1 and 4 (minus the start filter :p)

Was the concert at night? It looks like the environment was really dark. The concert started late at about 10PM It also looks like there was some flash being used. Not by me, & mostly not by anyone else, either. Lotsa' cell phones were being used by everyone. But ISO 3200 is tricky on a 20D... If I'd had my druthers, I'd been able to move around with the 85 f/1.8, but stuck in a seat with the 70-200 f/2.8, ISO 3200 was mandatory. I used a little NNinja on the black areas of these. I like #1 and 4 (minus the start filter Typo, Rene? #5 has the star filter.
I wish the mic wasn't growing out of her nose in #4, but I liked her expression. If I had to pick a favorite, it would be the last one where she's not so serious & having fun. I'm going to have to see if I can pull something better out of that shot.

Thanks for taking the time to comment, guys!

You're welcome, Dwight! And I don't think she needs one either! :D

Nice pics. I have always liked Joan Jett. She is still a hottie. Thanks for sharing. Well, that started me thinking about a poster.

I'm still thinking about it & this is as far as I got this afternoon. I'll let that much ferment for a few days.
