Yes, they are, the jpeg compression does not help but they are. Also the DOF especially in #1 was very little @2.8

I think they are good shots, but both of them appear soft on my screen!

No. I forgot to mention that due to the fact that these are jpegs extracted from the big TIFF that goes to the online agency where I (try to :D) sell my pics and those guys do not want any sharpening on the original file, there absolutely no post processing here. But you are right, I should have done some ps to the jpg posted.

The first shot is great but personely i would've used a smaller aperture, say....f5.6 perhaps for a bit more detail at leats to try and get the petal at the front in detail too which would've looked better to be sharp with the centre.....but otherwise a nice fragile looking shot......
