I bought this Linhof tripod (here's a link to what appears to be the same model as mine on ebay, there's no model number: http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&category=30094&item=7516992608&rd=1&ssPageName=WDVW )

I bought the tripod for a few bucks at a yard sale and it appears to be very sturdy and in great shape, but i haven't actually used it yet because I don't like the old style head where you have to actually screw the camera to the tripod. I've used them before, but ever since going to a quick release head, there's no way I want to go back. it's a pain in the butt.

is there any way to attach some sort of quick release plate to it?

Can you just take the head off? There's a good chance there's a standard screw on the legs...

*I have never touched/seen any linhof stuff*

I had one just like that (minor head differences, though) which I bought in 1967, but recently sold it to a friend who needed it. 'Twas a fine tripod, indeed. I just didn't need it as bad as my friend did, as I have a couple of newer tripods as well.

You can get an adapter from Bogen that screws to your existing head just like a camera would. The adapter uses the rectangular RC2 quick-connect plate which you connect to the camera. Here's a link to it: http://www.bhphotovideo.com/bnh/controller/home?O=productlist&A=details&Q=&sku=149686&is=REG

the head seems way too nice to get rid of, actually. it's very smooth and has two levels.

Not too bad for a song, esp german stuff.

i was at a yard sale and i saw this man holding it...i asked him about it and he told me he was thinking of buying it and showed me how nice it was etc. then he handed it to me and said "if you want it, i don't need to get it." i asked a few times if he was sure and then i bought it. nice guy!

One feature that my Linhof tripod had was an air valve (in the bottom of the center column) that would prevent the column extension from slamming down if you loosened the screw. Check yours out. After many years, mine started leaking and the column could drop faster than when the worked properly. You might want to disassemble the thing and check out the valve. I believe I did at one time, a long time ago, and made it work better. However CRS (Can't Remember Sh**) keeps me from recalling what the parts are like inside.
