Okay guys, 1st time the Pics didn't load. Had to compress them. Hopefully they upload now. Again, guys... Please critisize them. Want to be as good as you guys ;) . Took these pictures with my new Canon Digital Rebel XT. 1st time taking pictures with SLR or any camera really. Let me know what you guys think. Thanks!!!!

Very cool. You'll pic up on it fast. Rule of thumb: try not to shoot right into the sun.

Welcome to the forum Jos.
I am no expert but if you ask - the first one dosent seem to have a proper focus. I assume you wanted to show the women, however its very long shot, you need to zoom in or be closer. (Her pose is nice thought :-)) Second one is shot in ver harsh light (towards noon ?) which is not the best time.
This being said, although the images may not be perfect technically, if they have some special meaning to you than they are good :-)
Just hang around here & you will catchup on many aspects

My advice: if you are taking a picture of a person, shoot the person ... don't add in the nice lights, or pretty building or interesting rock formations ... get up close and personal. That is, of course, what you did on the second image, except that you have a lot background stuff ... and perhaps a little reflector of flash to fill in their shadows would be good. In any case, these are a grand start! Just keep experimenting.
