Took my first waterfall pictures yesterday. The falls are about a 3 mile walk into the woods, but well worth it! Good day for it too, nice overcast skies in the morning. Exposure: .5/sec f/29 ISO 100 sigma 18-125 lens.

Thanks for the wonderful reply's! I learned one thing; hard to setup a tripod in the middle of a stream with all the rocks lying about and get it somewhat level. Good thing it was only ankle deep.:) Here's another one:

Gary, both are simply wonderful shots, with great composition and exposure. Is the waterfall near Newnan? We were in that area a few weeks ago, always like to ID new places to go.

Thanks, this waterfall is in Cochran Mill Nature Center (http://www.cochranmillnaturecenter.org/) located in Fairburn, GA not far from Newnan. It's about 25 miles south of Atlanta. If you ever get back in the area it's worth a visit. They also have several birds of prey and reptiles they care for at the center.

Excellent composition and color balance.....I , too, am impressed with the lack of hot spots on the water which can be evil, evil, evil on a bright, cloudless sunlit day. Tremendous job for a first effort.

Thanks to all the nice comments.
Used some techniques I learned from the "Understanding Exposure" book. I can't recommend this book enough. I waited for an overcast day to try and avoid hot spots on the water and harsh shadows. It was still fairly bright out though. I would still like to get an ND filter and try it again so maybe I wouldn't have to stop all the way down to f/29 or f/32.
I did reward myself and ordered a 16X24 of the first one from Mpix. I upsized it a bit so it will be interesting to see how it turns out.

Good mist effect! My suggestion is to go again after a rainfall; Wet rocks will make the shot look even better. Some photographers I know even come with a bucket and pour water all over them beforehand!

Beautiful shots, I looked at the first and was impressed by your composition and sharpness, then the second one with a tighter view, very nice.......nothing like filtered light for these shots.
