We took a quick trip to Zion Nat'l Park just to get the lay of the land in anticipation of going back in a few months and spending some time. I was aghast to realize I didn't have a circular polarizer with me (left it in the hotel), but snagged a couple decent shots inspite of myself. Everything was taken with the 16-35L.

nice photos. Isn't Zion just a magical place for pictures? It looks even better in the winter and spring.

It is a beautiful place. On our last visit we were amazed at the changes. They wouldn't let you drive down the canyon - had to take the Park bus. And we just didn't have the time for that so we passed. I love the whole area though and the drive thru is incredible.

That's why I want to go back in the fall. We stayed in St. George, and I'd really like to stay in the park or right next to it so I can get some of the morning light. Today was really just a scouting expedition, and we got a much clearer picture (no pun intended) of what we will want to do next time.

I love that park and you got some wonderful pictures. I haven't had much chance to break in my 16-35mm yet but we are planning a day trip to Yosemite this next week....the waterfalls are at their most spectacular in many, many years. I hope to see my lens step up to the situation.

St. George is a ways out. We have stayed in Springdale and find it great fun. You can definitely get into the park early from there and the rooms are not that expensive. Turns out the wife just threw our trip info away so it's here in the re-cycle box next to the desk. Last trip was last September - hot and very dry - but got to see some of the goats on the rocks. Returning from Sedona but it was all pre-digital so the pics are still on film waiting to be scanned...

And I apologize for not commenting...the pictures are great.

Very nice. I really like the first picture. There sure is a lot of color there. One of these days I'll make it to Zion and Bryce. I've never been to either one, but I definitely want to go.

Well, Tom, I just have to comment. These are nice shots, and there are at least a zillion more waiting for you in Zion. I can see you took the hike up above the Great Arch, and it's a lot of fun. Try to hike The Narrows when you return, and if you are fit, Angel's Landing (too steep for me). Also, the Emerald Pools are great photo ops and hikes. There is a road that goes up onto Kolob Terrace (starts well west of the entrance) and gives great views at sunset (shooting away from the sun). If you can, also visit Bryce Canyon, Capitol Reef, Escalante, Canyonlands and Arches. We were in Utah for 5 weeks last August-September, still not enough time. Let me know if you want more ideas.

Great shots! Zion is awesome. Would you mind if I posted a photo of mine from Zion in this thread?

Breathtaking shots Tom, the first is spectacular with the colors, but man-o-man the last one with the very teeny tiny cars in the lower left, sure give you a sense of the scale of the place. Is that where you parked and you hiked up to that vantage point to take the photo?

Not bad for just a scouting trip! I'm looking forward to seeing your early morning shots!

Breathtaking scenery ... well captured (particularly considering the time of day and no CP)!

Make sure you make the trip to Bryce - for sunrise if you can - it is magical.

Fantastic shots Belmondo! I think those shots are great even w/o any CPL. Thanks for sharing.

Now i don't know if i should go to Zion/Byce/Yosemite, or listen to my girlfriend, i.e DisneyWorld it is. :(

That's a rough choice! Last summer we took the kid to Disney, this summer we're all going to Glacier National Park for a week of hiking.

Belmondo, that place should be sweet in the morning light.

4 years ago my wife and I did a 2 week round trip starting and finishing in Vegas - Bryce, Zion, Kodachrome, Arches, Canyonlands, Monument Valley, Grand Canyon. Talk about sensory overload! At the time my EOS100 and Velvia got a severe bashing - would love to return with the 300D.

I am going to Zion this June. I live about 4 hours away. Just thinking about it makes me feel like a kid in a candy store! :D :D

Personally i'm more interested in those parks and canyons, but she loves Disney. My bank account can only affort one. Tough choice eh. Tougher than choosing between two nice lenses..... :o
