Oulton Park today. To say it rained would be an understatement. The day started off nice and sunny, but that was just to lull us into a false sense of security. Here are a few samples from the day:

And an error when the first few drops fell:

The rain adds to the photos, making them more appealing. The last one is just superb.

Hey! That guy likes to drive where I golf. :-)
The rain coming down in number 2 is awesome.

Should have come to Croft Ken - stayed dry all day, and the sun shone for most of the time as well ;) .
Excellent shots as ever. #3 is awesome. The composition appeals to me, and the colours are good and strong but just look at the water being shifted by the tyres. He can't be far away from aquaplaning!
Look forward to seeing more.
Cheers,
Simon.

I had a commission and a meeting at Oulton Simon so I had to go anyway. I like shooting in really wet weather, apart from getting wet myself that is, and the results are always more interesting than bright sun shots. Here is the winner of the 'wet' Formula Ford race that had to be cut short - wonder why?

Awesome! Nothing left to say - just awesome! The last one of the FF winner is my favourite. How on earth Kenny do you keep your camera dry?

With a 1D Mark II and an EF 300mm f/2.8L I suspect he doesn't bother ;)

Lovely stuff, Ken. :) Sometimes a bit of rain really makes the shot.
Hail last weekend, torrential rain this... errr... you haven't been upsetting someone "upstairs" have you ;)

Wow! The last shot is fantastic. And I thought in the first shot of #21 it was raining hard. Sheesh. Great work, Ken.

Thanks for the comments guys. That last shot is being used in a magazine and some of my other Formula Ford shots will be used in an upcoming Brands Hatch program. I have been inundated with requests for use of the images as well as drivers wanting prints.
The setup will cope with that sort of weather, but I still use an Optech cover to keep the worst at bay. I had to clean the front element of the 300 a few times as the wind blew the rain inside the hood and I started to get 'spotty' shots that you could even see when reviewing.
Rain gives the picture a certain look, apart from the spray. One of my F3 shots from the other week looks like an eighties grainy film shot (takes me back to when I used to do that) and an F3 driver wants an A3 framed print he likes it so much.
Cadwell, and other UK photographers will tell you, it is difficult to make Radical Enduro racing look interesting on track. The rain changes all of that and even individual car shots can look good. For those that don't know what a Radical is, shot 3 above and the 'arty' one below are Radicals. They are faster than production Ferraris in all respects, and cheaper.
Next on my 'must have' list is a brolly clamp for the monopod. I have a carbon fibre framed brolly that will withstand a howling gale but only two hands. I could turn into a wet weather specialist. :)

Great shots Ken, really like that last one of the Radical with the cloud of spray behind it, it certainly does make you think Radicals can be interesting ;)
Cheers

Great shots!. I love checking out your work but the rain really made them come alive. The rain pelting down in #2 adds so much more motion it's incredible and I don't think I can express the WOW of the FF race winner - superb :D
