So I've had this camera for several years now and it has worked great for me. But about a month ago it started to wig out on me. While viewing the LCD screen the picture would appear in hues of blue, purple and pink. Also the picture would have horizontal smearing throughout the pic that would be twitchy in movement. When I take the picture it would appear the same. Now when I take a pic with it there appears these horizontal white lines... I attached two pics, one is doing the vertical "smearing" and the other is not. Do you have any ideas what it could be? is it replaceable?
I don't really want to purchase a new camera because I just got the underwater housing for this one not long ago (living in Hawaii it's a huge benefit). also I am not really picky on my pics so this one does a great job for a beginner like me.
thanks all

See this thread (http://photography-on-the.net/forum/showthread.php?t=238911) on a Service Notice which it looks like you can take advantage of. Call Canon, they'll tell you where and how to send it back for them to fix free of charge if I'm assessing that shot correctly.

That is what my A95 did a couple of months ago. Canon could not have been better. They paid shipping both ways, replaced the sensor, and I was only out the camera for 10 days total. Works like a champ again and the Canon reps were very concerned about my satisfaction.

Well, I just called Canon and they have the best customer service I have ever dealt with... and I have called many companies. They said it does sound like the image sensor which they informed me would be fixed for free (amazing!).

wow, my old A95 did that very same thing last year. At first it was off and on, then every picture. I figured it was too far out of warranty, so it got replaced with my 880is. That's good to know that Canon is willing to work on a unit that is that old.

I have a A95 as well and I love it. Now I am having problem. I can take pictures indoor but outdoor pictures come out with a white screen. Can anyone help? I look at the newer cameras but they don't the variable screen that I like. The ones that have the variable screen are too bulky.

Do the pictures look anything like the examples in this thread? Actually, you might have a sticking shutter or aperture diaphragm. If you take several photos in succession do they get better toward the end of the series? If so, you might just need to use your camera more. I know what you mean about the flip-out screen though. I'm not letting go of my A630 any sooner than I have to for just that reason.

Not quite, it is pretty much blank, maybe with some shadow. Now that you mentioned shutter, I wonder if it has anything to do with the button that you push to take picture. It came off a couple of months ago. I tried to put it back but it won't click. I put a thumb tak in it after I cut off the sharp point and it worked for a while. Now I have this problem. Still I don't understand why it takes picture indoor but not outdoor.
Thanks for your response Jon. Do you think Canon support will still fix it even it is a 5 year old product?

If (and they probably do) they have the parts, I'm sure they will. Whether you'll like the price for a non-warranty repair is a different question.

I looked at the pictures took indoor and noticed there are lines. As much as I like the A95, maybe it's time to get a new and better one. I was looking at the SX20 which has the var. angle screen but it is too bulky. The S90 looks cool, or something in between. Decisions decisions!
