I shot Toby Keith a couple of weeks ago. Unfortunately, due to some testing I had done to diagnose a lens, I left the microadjustment setting for 70-200mm f/2.8L IS to +20, so all those images are quite OOF, but there are some in my gallery. OTOH, my 300mm f/2.8L IS is tack sharp.

In addition to the lens issue, the shooting rules were very restrictive and there wasn't much action on the stage, such as the confetti cannons that were used later, so there's not a lot of variation.

Without further ado, I start with the obligatory collage:

Well, I guess we could say that the stage overviews are "killed by spotlight"...
#3 is nice. #4 would have been nicer, if it weren't for the mic shadow on the chin.

The images would have benefited greatly from some decent lighting. (quality instead of quantity)

Absolutely, Rene. He didn't get away from that mic much but I tried to nail him when he did. Very difficult in the short shooting time and limited lighting to do much else. But he is a really big deal and they want to keep ALL the attention on him.

well i won't tarnish yr thread w/ my opinions of mr keith, but i will say that you should have a word w/ the lighting director...a single spot is pretty boring light, and that looks like all they gave you to work with.

you got some nice crisp shots per usual.

Well, I can't remember if they had one or two spots on him. :-) It was their lighting director, of course. I certainly don't mind you expressing your opinions in my threads ... heck, I don't know anything about music, don't pretend to, and have more to do than a one armed paper hanger so I'm unlikely to learn. But I guess you should be civil.

The 300mm shots look great! and that looks like all they gave you to work with. You have to take what you can get, right? That's what makes concerts fun to shoot IMO. I appreciate pretty mood lighting too, but can't get excited with having to shoot wide open @ ISO 3200 to get them? At least a hot spot gives a person at least one usable image. And when you're being paid to produce, that's not boring at all? if it weren't for the mic shadow on the chin. At least he backed off from it a bit. I hate it when they eat the mic & I can't get a good angle on them. the obligatory collage: Since you couldn't get the "obligatory full band" shot? ;)
I started a poster in the Joan Jett thread, too, inspired by a "She's a hottie" comment.

I saw your poster, Frank ... very interesting.
