this little guy sat here like this for 1 minute at least while i snapped away.

Yes, spelt meer, but with a "k": meerkat.

This posture is very typical of meerkats, though they usually are squatting on the hind legs rather than stretched up. One or two of the colony members will act as lookouts, often on high rocks. They sit up motionless, scanning for danger, and chitter if a problem comes.

That makes them great zoo subjects, since they just stay in that cute pose forever.

Neat photo! Amazing what one can learn on this forum, and not just about photography. Most I ever knew about a meerkat was from the Lion King! :) I need to get out more.

the meerkat turned around ever 10 seconds..it showed us its back side and front so funny

Meerkats often pose like that, but this animal is not a meerkat. I don't know what it is. Probably some kind of prairie dog.

He looks to be pretty small like 4-5 inches tall. Correct me if I am wrong.

haha yeah i thought it was a cute little bugger too and the cactus in the background made it a neat photo
