I was able to get the afternoon off and take my daughter to see SDSU play some ball finally. I've been meaning to get to a game but hadn't the time. Here are just a couple shots. I was there mostly to watch the game with my daughter.
Enjoy!

Faster shutter speeds would have made the first one better in my opinion. I don't like how the arm is all blurred out.
The last one is awesome though! I love it! Looks like the guy is doing push ups with his feet off the ground or something. Even the colors are perfect in that shot. Love it, great job.

I agree, that last one is fantastic. It is intresting how motion blur to convey speed is good in some cases and bad in others. Probably not so desirable in pitching but ok for the end of the bat.

Actually I kinda like the motion blur in the pitchers arm, but what do I know about baseball?
Nice shots!

Thanks everyone!
RbrtPtikLeoSeny , you would think that 1/800 would have put the motion in stop. I guess that I'll have to go up above 1/1000 next time. I've got a couple more where the motion is stopped, I'll have to do some PP and post those as well. I always lilke seeing what the grip is on the ball, to try and figure out what pitch is being thrown.

Actually I kinda like the motion blur in the pitchers arm, but what do I know about baseball? Actually, I'd like to see more! ;-) No, really! Nice shots!

I agree - more blur on the pitchers arm would be better. Freezing the pitchers arm in this position takes all the motion out of it, IMO. If the ball had already left his hand, freezing the motion would be appropriate, however.
I love the last shot - The ball inbound on the left, the dirt flying under the runners shoe, the fielder backing up the play, and the 3B coach almost willing the runner into the base - excellent.
Great pix, BTW!
Jim.

What lens were you using and how far from the mound were you. I ask because I've just purchased a 350 XT and want to do shots of minor league baseball teams that we visit this summer. So, I'm trying to decide which lens I would need.

Roger, I was using the 100-400L. I was sitting almost at the top rail of Tony Gwynn Stadium at SDSU. I would say it would be about 30 rows back and up high. I was in Section 3 at the top. This stadium is very similar to some minor league parks.
