Hi all,
an elderly friend of mine has a Canon A510 camera and was unable to delete some of his photos (in camera). I found that they had somehow been protected, I unprotected them so that they could be deleted Using (User Manual). He as now informed me that new photos that he has taken are protected again. Is there some way to make the photos unprotected as default?, or what can he be doing wrong as to have them protected when not wishing to do so.

They're unprotected by default. Protecting can only, AFAIK, be done on a photo-by-photo basis, as outlined on p. 97 of his manual. He might be choosing the Menu and getting into the "Protect" option, then setting protection as he scrolls through the shots.

Unless he's trying to save some, but not all, the photos on his card, I'd suggest just reformatting the card when it's full and has been backed up. It's a much faster, easier, and more efficient process.

thank you for the reply. You have confirmed what I was thinking. I will be seeing him in the next few days so hope to find out what he as been doing to have them protected.
