Cracking day at Croft yesterday, with the HSCC making their annual visit. I have a real soft spot for the historic racers so it was one of the events I was most looking forward to. I was not disappointed!

HSCC meetings are some of the best in the country. Lovely older cars, keen racing and so photogenic.
Excellent shots

Yes, the HSCC lot are always good value. They never fail to turn up mob handed either (unlike some major series with pathetic little grids I could mention).
Nice shots, Simon. :D

Thanks Brands. The cars tend to lean and move about a little more than the more modern equipment which makes things a bit more interesting.
Cheers,
Simon.

Cheers Mal. The clouds threatened a couple of times but it never came to anything. To be honest, I wouldn't have minded a shower or two to wet the track. I had all my wet weather gear with me and as KennyG says, it definately makes things more interesting.
Cheers,
Simon.

Thanks Cadwell. All of the grids were large, apart from the big capacity single seaters. There weren't many of these to begin with and after a few retirees after practice, it didn't leave too many cars in the main feature race.
Cheers,
Simon.

I love the Brabhams. Oulton a few years ago had six of them on the grid along with a lot of TGP metalwork. They were (and still are) some of the best looking single-seater machinery on track. The lack of areodynamics means they have a lot body movement and you can get some really mean looking shots.
I am still concerend that Croft had a totally sunny day. This must mean a major shift in UK weather patterns and big changes from global warming. At this time of year Croft is never sunny all day, never. :)

I checked the weather forecast on the web and teletext before leaving the house and both said heavy, thundery showers. The sky was heavy when I got to the circuit so it was on with water proofs and covers for the camera before heading off on to circuit. No rain at all until I got home (about 15 mins drive from Croft) and was lifting the last of my gear out of the car.
For once, Croft's (in)famous micro climate works in my favour:D
Cheers,
Simon.

Great looking old iron! Good work.
All of the cars were imaculate, and it seemed like every single one was cleaned between practice and racing. Some owners were even spraying the walls of the tyres with wet look tyre shine.
Cheers,
Simon.

Some owners were even spraying the walls of the tyres with wet look tyre shine. Is that the English version of our, "If it won't go, chrome it"? :D

Nice shots, Simon.
I had forgotten how much rubber those F-5000 cars had.
Thanks for sharing these.

Thanks Ian. The Anglia was great value. Not the quickest car but he battled all race long with the Mini Cooper S behind him in the picture.
Cheers,
Simon.
