Darn cool!
For the life of me I can't remember the name of the program, but there is a stand alone application that does the same thing.
You can use more than 2 source images.
I'll dig a bit for the name.

RAW would be a semi-solution.
You can effect the exposure in postprocess, but sometimes the lattitude offered won't fit the bill.
I have in the past performed what Photomatix and DRI do, to panormas "manually".
P.I.T.A!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Agreed, and in many situations you're exactly right, but you'd be amazed what you can pull out of a RAW file. I had a picture that was almost black because my flash hadn't recycled in time for the picture, since I was shooting RAW at ISO 200 or so I was able to use EC+4 and it's actually a usable image, even moreso after Noise Ninja processed it. You couldn't print it A1 size, and maybe not even 8*10, but i'm constantly amazed by how effective RAW is. I'll post the picture once i've done the required processing.

Photoshop CS2 had HDR which is the same thing, using multiple shot of the scene with exposure for shadows all the way to highlights.
I guess this is for people that shoots JPEG? Because CS2 HDR works with RAW

I haven't tried it, but I read one chapter from a book that said it won't use the same RAW as the source for HDR images. Maybe if you processed them to TIFF with a few different EC values? Or was the book wrong?

sure, a little off the topic, but well worth it! I'm almost certain I never got rid of Thrashard...probably in the attic with some of the others my wife "stored" for me! lol.
