Thanks for that link. I got the CP500 late last year, and everyone who has seen the prints is very impressed - especially when they find out I printed them at home. I'd say they are better than shop prints. The portable one could be useful, but only if you really need to print away from a power point. The power supply that comes with the CP500 isn't that big, so you could take that away on holiday (the printer is quite heavy though, especially considering the small size).
Only problem I've noted is that about 5 out of 100 prints were faulty with coloured squiggly lines across the print. Very odd. It looks lik a manufacturing defect in the paper.

I purchased a CP600 as soon as B&H had one in stock. I've been really impressed with the print quality and ease of use. The prints are comparible with a pro lab that I've been using and blow away anything that I have got back from a local mini-lab. I don't know how it compares to the CP500 for quality, but the CP600 uses the same Digic II processor as my 20D.
I've also never had a printer that was so easy to use and have had only one defect due to dust (my own fault) after 150 prints. Also, even though it didn't seem to require it I used the cleaning stick they provided after 100 prints, so maybe that's why I haven't seen any "squiggly line" defects.
The print media is a bit expensive where I live, so I ordered enough from B&H to last me about 6 months (along with some other equipement) to get the cost per print down.

The squiggly lines (to use the technical term) seem to be right inside the print and do look quite bizzare. I must send something to Canon and see what they say. And yeap, I got caught by a few bits of dust too. You really do have to keep it dust free. Not sure it'd be a good idea to use it at the beach! Prints cost around $NZ0.80 each so I'll see if I can get another triple-pack or two when I'm in Dallas later this year. The 500 was first available here in December '04. I agree absolutely about the ease of use and quality. I doubt there's a lot between the 500 and 600 - apart from the case and power supply. It's hard to imagine the 600 could produce better prints :)
