Canon A75 shuts down immediately as soon as it gives low battery indication. Is there software patch for this. No warning of low battery, etc. Naturally, only happened as my son was passing up to receive diploma at his college graduation. 5 years, 2 degrees and $75K and a $200 camera fails me.

I really like the camera otherwise, but this is unacceptable design feature.

I'm using Canon rechargeable AA batteries that were purchased new less than 6 months ago and have been recharged regularly.

I have had the same problem with mine from the start (very frustrating). I always carry a spare set of charged up batteries with me at all times. My only suggestion is when it is critical to get the shot at the right time don't wait but replace with newly charged batteries. You can then either put the old ones back in later to completely flatten or some of the higher priced charges can completely flatten the batteries before recharging although this is not a problem with Nimh batteries.

Here's the reply from Canon Tech Support. I can't believe that they haven't got a fix for this atrocious design flaw.

"Thank you for writing to us. We value you as a Canon customer and
appreciate the opportunity to assist you.

The camera does not have a battery life indicator. The camera will
notify you when the battery is almost dead and needs to be
charged/replaced.

If you require further assistance, please respond at your earliest
convenience."

NOTE: The camera does not notify the user until it is shutting down.

It is not the fault of the camera it is the nature of rechargable batteries, they give a high current up to the very last second then just die, the camera cannot give a low battery warning if the batteries do not give a steady drop off in current.
