View Full Version : Photo concerns

I have a friend who is concerned about me posting photo's of my kids. She thinks its dangerous, and says the pics could be photoshopped and used for all sorts of wrong things. And what if someone becomes obsessed with your child etc etc. Anyone else have any concerns like this? I hadnt really thought about it too much, but she is really making a big thing about it and says I shouldnt be doing it. Just wondered what other's view's are about this?

I think she needs to take a prozac and relax a bit. There are a million kids pictures on the internet and the chances of someone doing anything wrong with pictures of HER children are negligible.
Besides, like most mothers, she is problably convinced that her child is special, more attractive, smarter etc than anyone else's child when the reality is that nature makes females feel that way about offspring as a way to keep them from drowning the brats. :D :D :D

Lmao! Yeah I did think she was being a bit over the top with it all, and I did say to her about the millions of kids already on here. Thanks for your reply.. It has stopped me stressing over nothing! Lol

I don't have kids - far too young - but when I do I will post so many this forum will need a bigger server. Not sure what the worry is, millions of people have uploaded pics of their kids onto the net.

I'd say media is giving child pornography too much attention at times, to scare people to not post pictures of their children, very innocent and "normal" family pictures at that. I think it's to give in to those bastids to not post your regular family pictures. I don't want them to "win".

I agree with Petra - if we pay attention to every fear the media thrusts at us, we'll never leave the house. Putting our children in an automobile is far more likely to result in a bad thing, but we do it anyway.

I really don't think you have anything to worry about, when posting photos of your child or any children on this forum. Anyway whats to stop one of these idiots from taking a photo of your or anyones child for that matter? What has me concerned is when I'm out and about taking photos, will someone get all bent out shape and think I'm one of those nut cases because I might take a photo of a child. The news media has blown all of this stuff way out of proportion in my opinion, to the point everyone is paranoid over everthing. It's gotten so bad in this country that you can't even fish under a bridge cause they might think you're a terrorist planning on blowing it up. Bottom line be proud of your children and show them off. :) :)

their 'free' pen leaked all over my bag when I was away (with it) during the week

I am the same about stationary , love it
and a pen has to feel good in my hands.
also I think it helps the writing if it fits well.
I like them narrow and very pointed

your post reminded me of it

brand new:shock:
I was buying a haversack (a terrific one) and suddenly saw a stain on it
the store owner and other staff blinked and said there had been no stain when I was picking it out
I agreed
none of us thought so
but we could not think how or where it came from
not until I got back (to where I had been coming from:lol: ) did I see the inside of my handbag and the mess on the lovely lining :(
and I thought of the poor owner of the store :(
all had been wondering where the stain had come from
no one saw my hand at the time (it was on the palm )
least of all me

but I bought the haversack anyway (and never regretted it for a minute, it held everything I needed , in case, on the way home and getting around while there and left my hands free ( to snap)
I will let you know how it goes about the pen ....
when I get around to it
thanks:)

Another one is a very old gent who is confined to a wheelchair. Another one collects antique cars and another raises dogs. I don't know what the others do.
I've met some of them in line at the grocery store and at the video rental place and in the doctor's office. (Hoo boy! You DON'T want to share doctors with someone with whom you share a name! I used to have a collection of Montblanc pens, fountain pens, rollers and pencils. Then, one day I was looking at them (already had something like 50 or 60 pieces) and tought "OMG, all this money in PENS ?????" (MBs here can easily reach 300/400 US$ average and well above if in limited edition).
The next day they were all - except a small set that I still have (fountain pen, pen, pencil and roller) - on EBay. Made a ton of money out of them and had vacation paid for the summer for me and my wifem, saving the bank account for other stuff.
Sometimes collections can be really stupid. :o

I think she needs to take a prozac and relax a bit.
Prozac - or Fluoxetine - is a Selective Seratonin Uptake Inhibitor so acts on the brain's ability to re-absorb seratonin (the chemical that is produced by the brain to make you feel good) thus it stays unabsorbed for longer, meaning you feel less anxious or depressed for longer.
It's not a sedative or 'relaxing' drug.
:)
As for photographing and posting pics of young children, I can understand where she's coming from as there are some serious headcases around.

Yikes! Ive seen a few shots of ladybugs in compromising positions, we will all be locked up I tell ya! lol. Ive spoken to my friend more on this subject, and she said everyone has some very good points that they have made here. But she says.. I dont want anyone "fantasizing" over my kids. Ok fair enough. But how do you know someone isnt sitting in the bush or in their car "fantasizing" while she is walking to school. I know Ive had it happen to me about 6 times in my lifetime. Ive walked through a bush track only to find a man..(umm how do I put it).."relieving himself" while he is watching me walk thru. Another in a carpark, making it very obvious what he was doing, (and I was pushing a shopping trolley, surely not a turn on! Lol) Ive had it happen while Im pushing a pram.. It just goes on and on. I seem to attract weirdo's Im sure. Even my "dog wash lady" had it happen to her about a month ago while walking her dogs in the bush.
As much as I hate the thought of this happening with any photo of my kids or anyone elses kids, the fact is, who knows who is watching them out on the street. Anyone could be taking photo's of them anyway and we would never know.

I think being careful (and occasional over careful) is good, but we can't keep thinking bad thoughts 24hrs a day. As a mom I'm sure you're very protective of your children, but as you say in your last post, anyone can fantasize about them whenever. If some sicko wants to fantasize about your child he will do it. With or without a picture in front of him. And yes, anyone could be taking photos of your children without you ever noticing or knowing. Be careful, but don't let it take over your life. I think you seem to have a healthy attitude towards it all.
Makes me think of the issue of rape for us women. Tons of reasons for us not to even leave the house the way the world looks today, but heck, I'm not going to sit at home all the time.

I take TONS of pictures of family and especially my son, and I would like some critique and just to show them off (since my son IS the most handsome, smartest, bestest in the world), but my wife is like your friend, she things that someone is going to snatch him up if I post his picture on the net.. Oh well, guess I will just have to keep them all in the family.

This can be a really touchy subject and it surfaces on many internet forums.
I have run a forum for over 4 years now and, to make some attempt to ease the minds of the members, I created a password only area where they could post family pictures and control the access themselves to who could see the pics.
Other places tend to treat the subject differently.
What's right or wrong? That is a decision for the individual, I think. My wife doesn't want her face posted on the internet and I respect that.

Lets look at it this way, say I put up a few picks of my kids, simple enough. Now a week later some wacko finds them and downloads them. Now what does he do? He has no idea where they are from or there name so how does he begin to harm my kids? Yeah he can do stuff to the pics but I don't see how he can even begin to find the kids.

Ok, let me tell you about something that happened since I started this thread so long ago.
I posted a photo of my daughter, and put a watermark on it which had my name in it. One of the members on this forum looked up my name in the phone book, found my details, and told me where I lived and my phone number. Not that this worried me at all, I talk to him often in here thru PM's, but he was just pointing out to me how easy it would be to do this kind of thing.
I have since removed the photo, and dont put my name on any photos now.
