Hi,
This is my first post. Just got back from a trip to Alaska and took many (approx. 1300) pics with our new SX10 IS. Wouldn't you know the twist-on lens hood decided not to come back with us - like a lot of people who visit Alaska... The Canon LH-DC50 lens hood is $55.00+ which I refuse to pay for a thin piece of plastic. I saw a used one go for 36.00 on eBay. Guess where the seller was from? Alaska. Anyone have another idea? I'm in no hurry. There doesn't seem to be a cheap Chinese replacement available at this time. I won't pay $55.00. Camera captured some awesome shots by the way...

Thank you, Todd

Maybe pick up the Lensmate filter adapter for it and a 58 mm screw-on hood.

My suggestion is purchase what countless other SX10 owners have which is the below 52-58MM adapter from Lensmate. Then you can add a variety of different style lens hoods and also various filters. Sounds you all like the SX10 and plan on keeping it so why not improve it with a few nice accessories.

Various Lens Hoods:

Various 58MM filters from these reliable folks + get a 58mm lens cap that dont fall-off and the lowest prices i have found on Genuine Hoya filters:

Thanks guys! This solution solves 2 problems. I should definately think about filters too. I knew I'd come to the right place!

This Canon EW78BII Lens Hood works with 58 mm lansmate adapter ?

No. Canon's lens hoods are bayonet-mount, not threaded. That's intended to go on the 78 mm diameter 28-135 mm EF lens.

I am interested in getting the Lensmate adapter and a Hoya UV filter. Now when I shoot indoors, it it recommended to take the filter out?

Forgive my newbness ... I just got the SX10 IS and I was always a point & shoot camera person.

The only reason for using a UV filter is to protect the front element of the lens; whether to use it indoors depends on what you see as hazards there. I don't ever use one on my SX1; all my lenses for the EOS cameras have them though, and they don't come off.

Hello Todd
I have only just registered with the site and see that you were looking for a LH-DC50. I wondered if you managed to find one as I have one surplus to requirements in pristine condition. Please let me know.
Very kind regards
