Whilst out walking with my wife this afternoon we came across a newly born calf, it was born about 15 minutes before the first of these photos. We waited to watch it take it's first steps which took it about 30 minutes to master, wonderful to watch!

As it was my wife's birthday today we waited around for the farmer to ask him if he'd name it Helen, everybody say aaaahhhhh :D

Had a devil of a job getting the exposure/contrast right on these as the sun was full over ahead and very bright.

Those are terriffic photos. Have you any idea "who" the second cow is? I would guess not the father, but I'm curious. It seems like a real team effort.

Happy Birthday to both Helens.

Nice pics--:D

Tough to shoot with the sun overhead.

That other cow is probably ready to calve too.
She says "Where's mine?"

Yeah the other cow was definatly close to giving birth, she was holding her tail high and doing the sort of walk I guess only pregnant cows do :). Of course I wanted to stay and capture the moment but after 40 minutes or so my wife was shall we say hinting she was ready to move on!

Thanks for your comments,

Paul

I love the composition of #1. Birth is such a glorious event whether human or animal it never ceases to amaze me!
