Little bit of goodies leaked out early... lets you connect your Bogen quick release plate to the R-Strap system. Removes the need to ever unscrew your QR plate and makes everything way faster. Its going to be very reasonably priced too.

This is really funny! When the Rstrap just came out one of the biggest complaints was not being able to get from the strap to your tripod without it being a hassle . Now here is the fix and nobody has responded to this thread. LOL

I'm still very skeptical of this type of attachment. The D-ring isn't solid. Since it's split in the middle I would still worry about it bending and one side coming out.

I assume this is a straight-across replacement for the screw that normally comes with the Manfrotto QR plate. The R-Strap hardware appears to be machined from a solid piece of stainless and the loop is a good .026" larger in diameter that the one on the Manfrotto plate. It's very rigid and would take a lot of force to pull out.
I'd trust it more than I would the Manfrotto one, especially since I don't know what the Manfrotto screw is made of.

It is still my only concern for going this direction, unless by chance the split in the middle is on the outside and then welded and smooth, but that seems like too much of a hassle. Besides the d-ring, the R-strap has everything going so far for me to make a purchase. Oh I keep second guessing myself with these things.

Black Rapid has similar construction in their FastenR-2 (http://www.blackrapid.com/product/hardware/fastenr/). I've been using a pair of these for several months now, including carrying a 100-400 on my 40D. They are just as solid as they were the day they arrived and I will continue to use them.
It would be interesting to test one of these and see just how much force it took for the ring to fail...

What’s wrong with the D-Ring screw that comes on the Manfrotto QR plate? Why would it need to be replaced, does it break?

The loop's not intended to function as a load-bearing item; there's a (perceived, at least) risk that it'll pull out of the screw under load, with consequent danger to the camera.

That’s funny, I could support my own weight on this thing, does everybody know it’s made of solid steel?
Anyway, I use it all the time with my RS-5 strap attached with a 100-400 lens, if it breaks I will eat my own head and post back here about how wrong I was.

I've been using the standard RC2 quick release plate ring with my R-Strap for over a year, probably longer, no worries. It supports 40D with 100-400 and 580 EX II. Walked all over Europe like this. Also supported the 70-200 2.8IS when I had it.

Use of the Manfrotto plate is definitely not recommended by Black Rapid or Manfrotto--check their forums for the official word on this. I'm glad some have had success using the plate that way, but I would refrain from encouraging this.

I guess I should have qualified that I don't go running around with it, allow it to bounce and put undue strain on the connections. Just slung over the shoulder walking around doing the touristy thing. Should also point out that the 100-400 is retracted, not in the 400mm position ;)
