Has DPP replaced either the Viewer Utility or Zoombrowser? I'm trying to clean up my computer and I have so many versions of so many apps installed I don't even know what's current anymore.

Seems like DPP replaces the Viewer Utility, but Zoombrowser is still current. Is that right?

What camera do you have and which versions of the software are you referrng to. With the versions that I have, DPP 1.6.1, EVU 1.2.1 and Zoombrowser (or ImageBrowser for Mac) are three separate and distinct programs. DPP and EVU are RAW converter programs but do not replace each other. For example, in order to hook up your camera (except for the XT, I think) and set or change the camera settings such as the owner name, you need EVU. DPP won't allow you to do that. Zoombrowser and Imagebrowser are what their names imply, a browser program, for browsing you images and uploading from camera to computer. Theoretically, you can get rid of all of these programs if you other use 3rd party programs to accomplish the same tasks and assuming you don't need to change the camera settings since you'll need EVU to do that.

My understanding about the XT is that the Zoombrowser program that comes with it replaces both the previous versions of Zoombrowser and EVU since their functions are rolled into this one Zoombrowser program. If you have the XT, then you can pretty much get rid of all the previous versions of ZB and EVU.

I have a 10D.

After futzing around and updating to ZoomBrowser 5.x, it sure seems to me like all I need is ZB and DPP. I'm also pretty sure that ZB is what I've been using to download my pictures too.

Right now none of it works, and every time I plug my CF card in all I get is a Windows explorer window instead of having any kind of download utility. Off to debug that now.

Anyway, the bottom line is all I think I need is DPP and ZB, along with Photoshop, for my workflow.

Thanks for the help!

You don't really need ZB. You can just download your images using Windows Explorer via the card reader. Although EVU can be called from ZB, you don't need ZB to use it. You can just start up EVU as a standalone program.
