Here's a couple of shots I got this morning on my way to work. I was stalking a Mallard duck when this guy launched from right in front of me. Took the pictures, changed my underwear and carried on to work. Man, are they big birds.

Yes they are, and nice captures of them too. I take it that you weren't using your scratched up kit lens? Still LMAO. ;-)

Canon 20D, 18-55 kit lens, Canon 75-300, cheap (relatively speaking) 420-800mm/with 2X converter.
(The second the shutter clicks, your pictures are "HISTORY")

You have great reactions. It's hard to get these so clear when you're not expecting them. I like #2 the best. I'd crop it much tighter, though, since it appears you have such great focus.

Thanks for the tip gmaize. I tried that, and wow I agree 100% with you. I think it makes a big difference, much more detail of the pelican. You can even see the water drops coming off of his feet and tail feathers. It also enhanced the DOF some i think. The bird seems to pop from the background better in the tighter crop. Haaa.....so much to learn.

How do you have such great photo opportunities on the way to work. I sit on a crowded bus looking at traffic jams on my way to work! Great shots.

Geez Six I bet what you think is mondane on your ride to work would be awesome to us. The fact that your in China is a real plus. I someday will get there to see the great wall. So please take some of those pics from the bus and lets see what you see on your ride to work. I think it would be cool.
