Hello,
I have a Kirk Enterprises modified Kaiser Pro Medium Ball head that is now going on 13 years old. I have never done anything to this ball head other than to wipe it down with a damp cloth after using it; it still works perfect. Should I be doing anything else? Bob Johnson of Earthbound Light mentioned something about using WD-40 on the ball; what do you guys think about that?

If you are not experiencing any problems, then no other maintenance is necessary.

Wouldn't WD-40 make a slippery mess out of everything and cause the ball to become harder to lock? :(

13 years of use, you've done nothing to it and it still works fine?...I think you answered your own question ;)

I would contact the manufacturer on the matter.

Markins say basically the same thing.

And make it a dust magnet!!!!
If it comes apart. I might pull out the ball and simply wipe it off. then re assemble. Nothing more.

WD-40 is a cleaning solvent with lubricating properties. if you wipe off the excess you'll be fine.
