Just did a google for photography forums. I'm on one on my pregnancy/baby board but I'm sure it couldn't hurt to have a few others on the list too. :)

I just ordered a 300D from The Camera Store (Alberta) on Friday. Seeing as tomorrow is a holiday for us up here I probably won't get it until Wednesday or later. I can't wait to try it out! I'm a little nervous about the freezing/seizing that I've heard about here and on my other board but I'm hopeful. I'm going from a Pentax Optio 33L to the 300D, so I'm sure I'll have a lot to learn. The Pentax is nice for point and shoot but I don't have very much manual control with it and would like to upgrade. I don't think I'll outgrow the 300D any time soon as I'm still very much an amateur.

The only picture I have to show right now that shows what stage I'm at is one I took with the Pentax earlier this week. Tuesday evening maybe? Ignore the very wrinkled "backdrop". It was mainly to cover his Jumperoo and toys; I was just playing with the camera and not intending to get anything.

Brogan picture... (http://photobucket.com/albums/v205/pleutim/Brogan/?action=view&current=sheetbackdrop.jpg) I hope that link works. It's in photobucket. Light was natural and coming in from the picture window on his left side. Some PS'ing to adjust shadows/highlights.

Welcome :)

I think many of us said that at some point. A couple years and a few thousand dollars later,.... I was wrong :-P;)

Enjoy

hahaha...note "on the whole"...just don't ask if the 350D worth the extra $$ over a 20D or RAW vs Jpg shooting and you should be fine. :-)

Nah kidding..this is one of the better forums around. very few ego manics here and everyone is just as mad (about photography) as you are or will ever be.

I don't think I'll outgrow the 300D any time soon as I'm still very much an amateur. If I had a nickel for everytime i heard this one (including myself), I'd have my full wishlist of equipment http://www.photography-on-the.net/forum/images/smilies/tongue3.gifhttp://www.photography-on-the.net/forum/images/smilies/tongue3.gifhttp://www.photography-on-the.net/forum/images/smilies/tongue3.gif

Welcome to the forum, Peggy. That picture of Brogan is adorable. It's just unfortunate that for every hour you spend on this forum, $$$ will be deducted from his college fund and applied towards the equipment itch you will be getting from learning here. Good luck with the 300D . . . you made a great choice to start with and I'm looking forward to seeing your pictures!!!

Well another one bites the dust. Welcome to the forum. Great picture. I started like you some 5 months back. Picked up a couple lenses and upgraded to a 20D and my pictures still suck. :)

But I am having fun.

Welcome to the forum, Peggy.

He's a lovely boy. I hope you've got a large hard drive - you'll need it to store all those pictures.

Welcome Peggy! Nice pictures of Brogan you have there.
I'm sure you will love your 300D. I love mine. Feel free to post any question. There are a lot of friendly and helpful folks here. ;)

... one I took with the Pentax earlier this week...
Blast you! I hate when an "amateur" gets better pictures with a P&S than I could with $3,000 worth of hardware in my hands.

Blast you! ...

Thank you, Curtis. ;) Thanks for the compliment!! If it's any consolation, my "good" shots are rather few and far between. More luck than skill. The impromptu "shoot" before that one was a major bust. For this one though I used a tripod and I think that made all the difference. I guarantee you that your pictures are better than mine at this point.

And thank you everyone for the very warm welcome. Right now I'm mostly reading the threads and exploring the forums but once my Rebel gets here I'll be trying to apply tips and tricks.

Welcome Peggy. Very cute child. As others have warned, due to your participation on this board either your bank account will go down or you'll end up selling everything you have that is more than a year old (except your child), just because you have to have that lens, or light, or....! :) Maybe you have more willpower than me.. Have fun!
