Greetings,
I was looking in the 2009 Gitzo catalog and saw that they now have apparel.

Looks really nice and would have some value (ecspecially reading about in in the brochure). I saw the price of $450.00. To me, that seems rather high. I know everthing in the photo world can be rather expensive - but this kinda of suprised me. What do you think?
Regards,
Mark

i bought a lightweight columbia rain jacket for $60 before going to alaska. if i need more pockets than the three big, sealed pockets of the jacket i would wear my $70 domke vest underneath.

You can get a Scottevest Signature System jacket for $100 less and 50 pockets:

They've got all kinds of fun pocketed apparel there and I have lusted after that jacket for years!

Just because Gitzo makes very good tripods, monopods and accessories; that doesn't mean that a jacket with their name on it should be worth a king's ramsom.

I have that system and can fit a 1L Coke bottle in either hand-warmer pocket of the outer shell. I imagine you could fit a 1-Series body in some of the interior pockets. (Perhaps I'll try later) They can hold a lot, but they get very heavy, obviously, and weigh quite a bit empty. They are also quite hard to stow.

Yea they have had that out for a while now, and yes its way over priced. But if youve got the money, it looks to be a good coat.

Aquatech make a nice waterproof jacket
the big "handwarmer" pockets at the bottom are big enough to fit a 1series body, or 70-200 in them, and the upper pockets on the chest are large enough for a flash or CP-E4 pack
the sleeves and hood zip off leaving you with a nice vest too.
Mine has been nice and waterproof, every time i have needed it

None of these jackets are exactly the "grab and go" type. You're gonna want to make sure that you have a specific reason to wear them when you do.
Still, I'd like to see someone try an overnight trip with one of these!:p

You're probably going to pay $200 of that price just for the Gitzo name...

I would never buy such a thing. I'd rather wear jackets that are made for extreme mountaineering conditions. Brands such as Arcteryx, Mountain Hardwear, Mammut, Marmot, etc. These brands will do a much better job and are functional at the same time. Gitzo doesn't make weather proof pants! :)

Nice but, my North Face and Mountain Hardwear pants are weather proof all around. :) I'm sure it's functional but, I'm more comfortable with what I own. :)
