I think its a tad confusing having your portfolio being essentially another website in itself, with another contact box. If it were up to me, add the about page to the top nav bar, or combine it with your contact page you have already.

As far as your portfolio goes, have you tried setting a gallery of images in SmugMug to the "slideshow" gallery style for a portfolio style page? I have done that for one mine, here's an Example (http://www.gwagdesigns.com/Military-Simulation/Military-Portfolio/6733832_vMsQ2)
