Terrific job! Great composition and exposure. I wouldn't change a thing. Did you find you need something wider than the 24-70L glass on the 50D? I recently shot a wedding with a 24-105 f4L and I would have liked a wider lens on a few shots. What was your experience?

The skin in the first photo looks over-processed but the others are all terrific.

Thanks so much for the comments!!! And George, I did find that I needed a wider lens..There were some shots that would have been so much more dramatic if I would have had one.

from the bottom
#2: why does groom have metal bar growing out of head?
#3: you're so close to straight, why isn't it?
#4: absolutely no detail in any whites? contrast a tad high? is there some soft focus crap going on?
#5: contrast again, and what does the metal stair add to the picture. crop it. I think it would be better with a higher vantage point, closer to the dead man.
#6-8: contrast and vampire eyes.
So do wedding guys get paid adequately for time, or is it a print and binder profit?

#6-8: contrast and vampire eyes.
Total newbie question, but what do you mean by vampire eyes?
Thanks

i think the eyes is just a make up problem?
overall pics are ok... i think what needs to be worked on are the small details. like for #3, groom looks too far apart, i would have him come closer and ask him to lightly set his lips on her neck. #4 try to zoom out or step back to get the whole dress in and not cut off. i dont mind the groom being cut off as hes not whats important in that composition. #5 and #6 again, try not to cut off. #7 i feel the foreground blocks the bride too much. Next time try to note the problem and recompose? at this situation you might have been able to shoot and a higher angle or have the bride and groom scoot over a bit. #8 is a cool pic. I think a shot that wouldve been nice is a headshot cropping near the elbows and keeping the light reflection in.
Keep at it. You're limited since you used a crop cam.

Thanks everyone for their comments!! Looks as though these arent as good as the Bride and Groom thought they were though!!!

The skin toning in #'s 1, 4, 5 and 6 looked excessive to mine eyes, and the contrast in #5 was similarly excessive. I really like the whole style beyond that!

Or my students mothers opinions. No, man, they're OK. We're (OK, I'm) just critical. Easy for me to crit -- I would never dream of doing weddings

aqmen to that..it's easy looking for perfection in work thats done on the fly in stressfull condiitons from the comfort of our PC.
as long as the B&G like them and you have critiqued yourself and moved forwards, then it's just another step into making yoiur reputation even stronger, and hopefully, more work!

I agree completely, but when you show your work to, say, an agency, no one cares about conditions or tight deadlines or excuses. Inhuman beasts!

Heck with the B&G. Be your own worst crit, learn, vow, and do it again. Yeah, its important to make the client happy, but they're usually not very visually literate. In design, we say that's why they hired us. We tell them what looks good and try to educate them a bit. I have no experience with weddings, thank buddha-allah-jesus, but I imagine they're happy if their eyes are open and the woman doesn't look fat.

Thanks everyone, mcluckie, thanks for your advice, you are right about the contrast and all the wrong things about the photos, I get a little stressed with bright days and I do need to learn that I need to figure out my lighting better and work harder!!! It is my weakness, flash is another weakness!!!

Thanks for taking it in the light (no pun) intended. With that attitude, no worries. Its the people here that argue obvious errors in judgement or composition.
Underexpose a tad, and bounce the flash.
