Do I need a lens adapter to attach a UV filter to the G3? I am mainly interested in protecting the lens. Other options?

Hi Bruce. You have two options for a lens adapter. You can buy the Canon lens adapter which is made of plastic. Or you can buy the Lensmate. Try this URL: http://www.lensmateonline.com/g3.html.

Thanks, looks like a great lens adapter. But can I cover the lens with a UV filter without using a lens adapter? I'm looking to keep the camera smaller AND not have to deal with the lens cap during trips where I take the camera in and out of my fanny pack all day. Thanks.

Oops. Sorry about that. I failed to read your question correctly. IMHO, since the lens is not stationary and there are no apparent attachment points at the front, I don't think there is anyway to attach a filter without using a lens adapter. Please let us know if you find a way.
