super colorful duck...what kind is it?

Here is a pic of a duck I recently took. Curious if someone knows what kind it is?

I think it is a Mandarin Duck.

That is a beautiful shot of a Mandarin Duck. I have not seen one with such color as that, would it be possible to get a copy of the picture? I have a weird duck in my pond, it is hanging with a Mallard Drake, it looks black but at times with the sun, it has red purpleish tint to it, with a white chest and lowwer throat. I am sure it is a hen, but I am not sure of which spices crossed to make it.rw

Wow, not only is that a fantastically adorned animal, but the first pic is outstanding. The first capture is something else! You've got just enough water in the composition, and the the ripple highlights aren't too high key, and yet there is this stunning duck in the middle of the whole show. It really demonstrates how this animal's crazy morphology actually help it to blend in with it's surroundings. Nicest duck shot I've seen in a while.

Thanks for the reply Bob, the only thing is, this duck can fly like a jet, it originaly came in with four drakes, the one with it won out. They try, but no little ducks yet. rw
