When shooting weddings do you go at it alone or with a partner or team?

Depends what the couple wants. If they want two photogs it's kinda hard for me to deliver unless I have a partner ;)
My packages are based on a single shooter but I can offer two shooters since I trade off weddings with a couple of other photographers. We second shoot for each other as necessary.

I have an assistant, who's primary job is to make my life easier. This means carrying things, driving if I ask her to, setting things up, tearing them down, and also taking some photos. I can do it by myself fine, but it's easier and more fun with some else there. My assistant uses my equipment.

I always shoot as part of a pair but we don't class ourselves as primary and secondary shooters, we have different roles during the day that are both important to the end result.

What happened with Nick considering solo shooting? It's totally possible, and probably in the majority. Two photographers makes for better coverage and more fun, but the profit has to be divided in two. As i'm sure Jon knows, as fun as it is wedding photography is a business and it's hard work.

We shoot with two, there are a handful of shots that each is responsible for, however most of it allows more coverage.

Nick will do some solo shoots next year I am sure, but for our main weekend package we are still currently only offering packages with two shooters. We will know how well this is gonna work out after the wedding show next month.

Never had a paid assistant in hundreds of weddings that I have shot. Always shoot by myself although I have a standing offer from another shooter in town to help out if someone needs two shooters.

I usually duo a wedding. The pressure isn't as high and brainstorming ideas on the go is so much more pleasant than being on the spot and just winging it.

I'm solo. However, I wouldn't rule out having a second shooter, the option is available to clients and I know that there are some guys here on POTN who would be able to shoot as second should I need it.

I started doing weddings and I get a lot of offers on duo coverage. Luckily my sister shoots 35 mm and canon also so were both solid in terms of convience. Just need to plan accordingly.

i always have a second shooter for at least the ceremony, taking wide angle/balcony type pictures while i get the "personal" shots of the bride and groom. It makes for a much more interesting album to get the wider angle things that they wouldn't have been able to se otherwise.
It's usually my partner, who does the graphic design for the business, and she is able to see a lot of shapes and graphic lines that i really like the customer to see. She also helps by taking a few shots of the bridal party while I do a few "formals" of the Bride and groom. It's nice to be able to just say "go and do what you do, then meet me here at " "x spot" after you get the shots of them exiting the church."
If she isnt available, I have a small network of second shooters I use.

One books MD gigs, the other books PA gigs. We come back each other as needed. Unless it is a real low budget wedding, we almost always will shoot as a team. Life is MUCH easier having two fully capable competent shooters.
