My equipment is in my sig... I'm most likely, and assuming you all agree with me, will be shooting with my 28-135 lens. My nephew plays fullback/linebacker and I wanna get as much action shots as possible. I'll be shooting at 8 am PST and weather forecast predicts Sunny (although still a little early to be bright!)

What mode, aperture, iso, white balance, etc.. should I be shooting in ? Before posting this, my intentions were Av Mode - for the wide shooting, I was planning on shooting at f/11 for more detail when zoomed out and on the action shots as open as my lens permits (f/5.6) - White balanced set to daylight, unless im shooting underneath a tree....

What does everyone think ?

Sounds like you got yourself a plan, will you be close to the side lines? 135 could be
a little short, even with the crop factor.

First off F11 is NOT needed...I would go *maybe* f8. For white balance create a custom white balance.

set camera for Av, ISO200, F8.
Put grey card on the grass (before game).
shoot the card an remember the shutter speed.
switch the camera to manual.
set it to F8 and the shutter speed from #3.
Tell the camera to use the frame from #3 as it;s custom white balance.
Set Ai servo with AF center poing ONLY.
during game shoot +1/3-1/2 for backlit shots

and shoot raw....:) or raw + jpg.

shoot RAW if your worried about the WB, depending on how much room you have on your card.

Thanks for the tip. Just what the Dr. needed. I'm going to shoot some little league games this season too.

Silvex, which grey card do you use? I ask because it seems that some grey cards can be used for both white balance and exposure and then there's some that only do white balance (ex. Whibal). I am in the market for one that can do both but will get 2 if necessary.

Thanks

I have four types of "grey cards".

Expodisc (my favorite outdoors)
Macbeth color chart (I use for studio and products shots.)
Sekonic exposure pofile (for studio work)
Lastolite (which I have not use much)

the expodisc it is the easiest to carry and use with lenses using a 77mm filter. I made a "test" with the sekonic vs expodisc. The expodisc provided with a neutral CWB.
