It's a tad specific which might be why there are few replies. For what it's worth, the first shot appears to have very good detail and nicely exposed. I like that.

My wife has lived in Laos since 2004, project managing an education project for AusAid from '04 until '07.. We decided to come back together this time,,we were getting a bit tired of being separated..

Man, this is something I do often. abjam77 said he lived in China, so I'd put my money on a Chinese ethnic group.. This doesn't help much though as in the border regions of China, Vientnam, Thailand, Laos and Myanmar many ethnic groups have very similar lines..
For example the Miao in southern China are the Hmong of Northern Laos and North Vietnam who have similar roots to the Yao which are called Mien in Northern Thailand.. Confusing huh??
What's also interesting many of these groups jump borders to follow the agricutultiral seasons..
OK,,time for another pic..Here is a Black Hmong woman shot in Sapa in far northern Vietnam..
Shot on Fuji Superia 200,,negative scanned on an Epson scanner..

Hi, Yogestee -- thanks and I like your stuff as well. The shot you picked is from Tianjin. I just landed in Hohhot an hour ago. Already met a pro photo and video guy here who will take me around the next couple days. Actually I was making time with his young sister-in-law on the airplane from Beijing. So far, I like Inner Mongolia a lot. The terrain is awesome. Obviously a smaller city than Beijing or Guangzhou, where I usually base myself.

Stop it Bob,,I'm getting a bit jealous here ;) .. I love travelling to remote areas..
In 2007 my wife and I drove from Chengdu to Western Sichuan to a place callled Serta near the Sichuan, Tibetan and Qinghai borders.. It's part of the Tibetan Autonomous Region in China.. Gob smacking beautiful scenery and the biggest sky I've ever seen..

I've been to your website and read your words. I think we're cut from some similar cloth. I love asia so much more than western culture. all different priorites. Parts of China are becoming westernized too fast-- plus they kept some bad habits of old business practice, so the combination is scarey. I'll be doing Pingyao, Chengde, Chengdu and Chengquin before I head back to Chicago Nov. 1.
For cities I really like HK a lot. My partner and I have artist residencies next summer in Shenzhen and I'll be in HK often. I have friends and family in SZ, Guangzhou and Donguan. It might take me that long anyway to $$ recover. I haven't done Tibet or Xining yet, but done most other PRC areas. I was in VietNam, Thailand and Cambodia years ago. Film stuff, so I gotta go back. Every step is photo inspiration for me.

Mate,,brilliant.. We lived in the Tibetan quarter of Chengdu China for three months in 2007.. A very colourful and vibrant part of town..
The project my wife was managing was geared towards the Tibetan communities in far western Sichuan.. We used to hang with the Tibetans from her office,,,,wonder, wonderful people..
We would have beer and pizza nights at our apartment some Friday nights with 10 or 12 Tibetans turning up,,,wonderful times, these people know how to party.. This wasn't strictly legal as Tibetans aren't allowed to mingle in groups over 4 or 5.. They are a fairly conservative bunch when it comes to politics but loosen them up and they would give "their" story ;)

^^Those are great. I don't have the confidence to photograph an entire bus station like that. Usually I just take one or two shots and then move on. Nice work!

Thanks abjam77.. The Lao are pretty relaxed having their photos taken,,most enjoy it or even encourage it..
What I like to do is sit down where there are people milling around and start taking pictures.. I usually start with a tele lens isolating my subjects then move from there.. Once they get used to me being there they normally ignore me.. Children are a bit different,,they'll often ham it up for the camera..

Yes, although I don't get out on the street as often as I'd like to. Very envious of you guys getting out in the sticks. My wife is not very adventurous. I have however managed to convince her to go to Yangshuo this month. Hopefully have some pics to add to this thread when I return.

Jurgen,
I think my wife's idea of remote is a little different to mine and yours
I'm trying to resurrect my days of backpacking train travel with limited success but I don't think I'll ever get her to the outer flung regions of China which I'd love to explore. Then again, you never know!!

Dave,,, it looks like you'll go alone if possible..
My wife has been to some of the remotest regions in Laos when she was managing an education project for AusAid.. But nowadays she leaves this kind of travel to me..
I just love getting out and about, and seeing the real Asia..That definitely doesn't mean resorts in Thailand or the cities etc..

Yogestee - not this time. Though I'm going back in July next year, planning to ride a motorbike from Saigon to Ha Long Bay (Top Gear inspired, you could say) with a buddy of mine. And the camera. I did not have the much time there this time around, and it was pouring with rain the whole time.
Though it seems I take better photos when the weather sucks, because I have a lot of good (for me) shots from Vietnam, but I am really struggling to find good shots from when I was in Vegas just a few weeks later.
Still, I enjoy every second behind the camera.

Being a motorcyclist myself this trip of yours sounds great.. I tripped around Vietnam using overnight trains,,brilliant way to get around..
In early December two motorcycling mates are coming to Laos.. We are planning to hire bikes and heading up along Route 13 into the northern highlands of Laos..I've driven this road but never on a bike..It's one of the remotest regions in SE Asia and the scenery is gobsmacking beautiful..

Ultra-conservative Yemeni culture requires all women (even teenagers) to be completely covered in public - even if going to the well for water.
