One of my wife's big heart throbs and she didn't even go to the concert with me ... no babysitter! But I did get a chance to chat with Seymour Duncan, the guitar pickup guru who is an acquaintance of mine, before the concert. He was going to drag me along to hang out with Peter but the logistics were awkward with respect to my concert obligations so I had to pass. He's apparently been friends with Peter for 30 years! Seymour is a supremely nice guy with a huge talent. He spent a large part of the day working with AC/DC before dragging his personal entourage up to the casino for the Frampton concert. But Seymour loves photographs so he's kinda suggesting that he'll pave the way for me to go with him to meet with folks if I'll bring my camera. What a hoot!
#1 Obligatory collage:

#4 Peter is a very warm and personable stage presence:

Nice, Dwight. Love Frampton. I like #8 more than #2. Great shot. (sharper too!)

Wow, he looks like a totally different person in #8. He reminds me of one of the characters in the last season of Weeds. Great set overall. I dislike shooting when the lighting is overly warm, looks like you did a great job.

Thanks! #8 is the only similar one I have ... I often have four or five very similar but that's it for the yellow headshots!

Yes, since he tends to smile all the time this expression is very different ... I think he was between songs and thinking about he wanted to say about the next one ... he tends to interact with the audience in fairly unscripted fashion.

Yeah, for sure. I just shot him, http://photography-on-the.net/forum/showthread.php?t=747402 , It's funny to see the almost exact same expressions and moments in our shots. I hope the show he played for you guys was as good as the one I saw.

What lens in #8 Dwight?
We've been through this before ... didn't you install the EXIF reader? :-) 300mm f/2.8L IS.

Hey Dwight, I know WE have been through the question of what lenses you use for concert shooting, but I'm not sure my dad has.
I know, it's such a pain in the butt having two of us on here! :p
Anyway, the shots look GREAT and #8 is a winner for sure.bw!
Oh yah... EXIF viewer is being installed now. Thanks for the reminder! ;)

The magenta shot in the collage clips "a bit"
Yellow in the last shot as well. The recovery slider (or TAT for saturation) is your friend ;)

While much of the cutout image in the collage has -100% clarity there is no doubt that there is clipping well beyond what recovery can deal with ... always an issue with the Canon sensors and exacerbated by the moderately high ISO used. But I generally don't worry overmuch about clipping ... it is mostly the result of the desired lighting by the LD or the talent and Frampton's lighting was unusually contrasty. Never thought about lessening the yellow in the last one. His skin doesn't seem clipped much if at all and I'd not bee too concerned if his shirt clipped. Oh, the collage cutout frame is in the gallery on my website.
OTOH, I certainly appreciate being reminded to attend to clipping and saturation since I tend to focus on other areas, such as the look in their eyes and getting out from behind the microphone. :-)

Good action set... Since Peter often just stays in front of the mike, this set is especially good...
He was here at Penn's Peak several times...
My friends got some pics with Peter back stage... I didn't fare well with photos that night he was here... My DSLR was brand new, and the settings were awkward (at medium ISO...) at first.

Yup, he was pretty much lodged in front of the mic, but I knew from other's shoots so I waited and waited.

#1 Obligatory collage: Two shots is a tad conservative for a collage? :D
Otherwise, these are great shots! Good range of expressions!
What font is that?

Excellent series. Wow, I remember seeing Frampton playing in concert way back in the 70's. Great music.

I usually do one cutout of the headliner and a full stage shot. Occasionally more for special purposes or two headliners (like Brooks & Dunn.) If I use cutout or just full images than that it gets to be very busy looking.
The font is Batman Forever Alternate
Very nice set.
Thank you.

A voice from the past, Cheryl! Hope all is well with you guys. You still hangin' with the same old crowd?
One would hope that after 200 concerts at the same venue that I'd have some clue, but even now things are not always perfect. You should come shoot with me. Oh, and Peter's hair ... I am sure he donated it. LOL.
nice job
Thank you.

A drummer hidden behind a stack of Marshall's... sure Marshall's sound wonderful, but wtf? The is one mess of a stage setup. I guess he was going for the purist look, not stage show pretense. If he was trying for it, well, he over achieved. At the end of the day though, it is about the sound, and I am sure he did well.
Shot wise, nothing less than I would expect from ya. Keep clicking Dwight...

I like set of images. Specially #6 (full stage shot) and #7. Your close up shots are always nice and
sharp.
