Please note that the CS version of the framer (AKA Basic Framer) is v1.11.

The CS2 Framer is v1.10

******* UPDATE 29th June v1.11 *********

Altered static text sizes to allow for different Mac point size.
(Thanks go to Graffix for this)

If updating from v1.10 there is no need to delete the Mikes Framer folder.

If you are updating from v1.09 or lower then you will have to delete the Mikes Framer folder and its contents, located in the Photoshop directory ......\Presets\Mikes Framer

http://homepage.ntlworld.com/pooternerds/Framer/index.html

******* UPDATE 23rd June v1.10 *********

Added Batch button to save batch config file.
Changed location for saving config files. The folder Mikes Framer is now saved in the users home directory. (see instructions on the web site)

******** UPDATE 21th June v1.09 ***********

Added options to add drop shadow to text items.

******** UPDATE 16th June v1.08 ***********

Added options for Unsharp Mask (request)

******** UPDATE 16th June v1.07 ***********

Fixed bug: drop shadow stroke applied in other mattes.
Added option to turn on/off resizing.
Added filename to exif panel options.
Added new matte: simple double matte.

******** UPDATE 11th June v1.06 ***********

Fixed bug: When cutbevel selected and matte deselected, overall size was -20 pixels.
Added inner shadow for the frame. (request)
Changed cut bevel matte so all parts are on different layers. (request)
Changed various parts of matte layers.
Added instructions on the web.

I have tested this quite well but don't be suprised if you find a bug. If you do, let me know.

******** UPDATE 10th June v1.05 *************

Added on/off checkboxes for Frame/Matte.
Added new matte type. (overlay)
Added ability to rotate signature. (request)
The selected photoshop fg/bg colours are now saved each time you save a config.
Added ability to use saved colours.
Added new script to allow batch processing. (See readme file for instructions)

I have tested this quite well but don't be suprised if you find a bug. If you do, let me know.

If you have previously installed this script then you will have to delete the Mikes Framer folder and its contents, located in the Photoshop directory ......\Presets\Mikes Framer

************************************************** *********************

****** UPDATE 7th June v1.04 *********

I noticed that a few people using the script are using different fonts for signature/title/exif. So I have added the ability to do this directly from within the script. Don't forget you have to use postscript font names which can be easily found using the other small script included in the zip file.

If you have previously installed this script then you will have to delete the Mikes Framer folder and its contents, located in the Photoshop directory ......\Presets\Mikes Framer

****** UPDATE 6th June v1.03 *********

Fixed problem with exif text colour not working properly.

No need to delete the Mikes Framer folder if you are updating from the previous version.

***** UPDATE 3rd June **********

Added extra exif info and options to select which to use.

If you have a previous version you will have to delete the Mikes Frame folder and its content as per the readme file included.

***********************************

**** UPDATE ****
I've uploaded a new version because there was a problem when using the cut-bevel matte with CS2.

I think it is now ok, but would appreciate feedback.

***************

Wet weekend and nothing to do, so I wrote this script for photoshop....

It lets you frame your pic with one of two types of frame/matte, add signature and title. All options are selectable.

Here are a couple of shots:

The script window:

Dropshadow matte:

Cut bevel matte:

Portrait:

I have only been able to test this on PhotoshopCS on a PC, so i would appreciate any comments.

------------------------------------------------------------------

(Edit)
I've uploaded a new version that will include basic exif info. I've limited it to Camera, Shutter speed, Apature and ISO for now.

If you already have the other version installed, you must delete the folder "Mikes Framer" and its contents from Adobe\Photoshop CS\Presets before using this version.

Brilliant, brilliant, I love it! I love the way it resizes the pics, very handy :) I wonder if it can be used as part of an action, or if it could take a list of files to frame from the CS2 Bridge/File Browser?

Works fine on CS2 on a PC. Thanks Mike :)

Would many people use that? If I bother framing a picture nicely I won't want EXIF info written on it... unless I misunderstand you. JAlbum's a good tool that understands and displays EXIF on web pages.

It prints it on similar to the signature. It can be printed vertically or horizontally, with or without offsets, or it can be turned off.

What screen size do you use?
I use 1280x1024 and there is plenty of room, I didn't think to make it smaller as I didn't think many people would use a smaller screen size for photo editting. Sorry about that. I will try to alter it as soon as I get chance.

Mike, thank you very much for this wonderful script.

One question: Lets say I open a new image, do a level adjustment, then ran your script. Then look back at the history window, all I see is the original file on top, and all the script actions follow. Is there a way I could go back to my old adjustments steps and make some corrections, without restart from original file again? ( I know I have to re-apply the script after that)

Thx. I am using the CS btw.

There are a lot of steps in the script which, I'm afraid, pushes whatever you have done off the top.
What I suggest you do is, do your level adjustments etc then make a "snapshot" which you can go back to.

I've included a pic in case you are not sure how to make a snapshot.

Just grabbed this today and went through the thread and saw the modified version. I use 1600x1200 so the original layout wasn't a problem, but I really like the 2nd version better, it's more tightly put together and looks more better IMHO than one really long window.

I noticed you pointed out the limitations in the EXIF data you put in, and I was wondering if there's any chance at getting it updated to add in Focal Length and date the picture was taken? I took a look at the script's code, but don't know all the proper variables to use and am not familiar enough with java script to try to add that in.

I'd really love having that other bit of EXIF data, if possible. Thanks again for the great script, I had been looking for a really good one, and I've finally found it :)

I've been messing with it a lot tonight and I've not had any trouble when converting from raw. Are you sure you there is actually exif info on the pics once they are converted? Does exif info show up in the browser?

I will be uploading a new version tomorrow with a couple of fixes. The focal length prints mm twice in some cases and I have put in a fix for raw conversions from C1 Pro which adds in a focal length for the 35mm equivelent and throws the script off.

I will also put a text box in the script window that will give a preview of the exif data so you can see what you are getting before running the script.

It seems to make the size 20 pixels less wide than what you select. Easy enough to work around, but I thought I'd let you know.

I must be doing something wrong, I still have the same prob, No exif on Tiff, only jpgs that I shot, not the ones I converted. Darn. Yet When I look at the file info on all my files the exif is there. I must be overlooking something.

Very strange.

Can you tell me exactly what you are using and doing?

What version of photoshop?

How are you converting your raw files, in CS or something else?

Keiffer
4th of June 2005 (Sat), 15:33
I'm using Photoshop CS, I'm shooting with a Canon D60 on Raw. I use PSCS to process the Raw images to Tiff. Like I said earlier, a couple of weeks ago I was shooting in Jpg only and these pics I can run your script and it shows the exif. The ones I've shot since then using Raw don't show exif when I run your script, after being converted to tiff ofcourse, unlessw I'm supposed to run that script while still in raw?. Weird isn't it.

Keiffer
4th of June 2005 (Sat), 15:36
Nope, Just tried to run your script while still in the process of Raw to tiff and no go, it resizes it and shows copyright but thats it.

Keiffer
4th of June 2005 (Sat), 15:43
I just checked in Firefox to see if I see the exif there, and it's not there like it is on the jpgs, so I must be doing something wrong either in the camera or during the conversion process. Let me go check all the settings on the camera and in PSCS. If you have any ideas let me know. Thanks.

mickle
4th of June 2005 (Sat), 15:47
It seems as though you are losing the exif during the conversion, but as to why I'm not sure. If I think of anything I will let you know.

I hope you find the answer.

I've added the other two bits of exif data and options to turn on/off the ones you want to display.

I have to go out now, but will upload a new version later.

WOW! Thanks so much! I just got back from a weekend at Busch Gardens to find this :D
The script is working great for me. The only issue I'm noticing is that when I load it, the EXIF box is checked (I saved that to be default) but the individual exif data is all greyed out... I have to uncheck and re-check the main exif box to get them to come up and recheck them all, but this is easily dealt with and not a major flaw.

Again, I greatly appreciate your writing this script!!

Decided to post a little sample using the script of a photo I took this weekend. I decided that to make it easier and quicker to use, I'd set up an action that calls it up, and set that to a keyboard shortcut.

Now I just post process my image, hit a hotkey and make a few changes to add a title or whatever, then save the image.

Ok Thanks Mike, I just went through everything and don't see why. Oh well thanks anyway.Keiffer, I have tried Mike's script on my photo the other night; oh! Thanks Mike for your wonderful script!!!http://www.photography-on-the.net/forum/images/smilies/icon_wink.gif, and had the same problem. But then I figured out that the background colour I used was 'Black' (before running the script) which was the colour of the text (set as default in Mike's script), after changing either setting to different colour and ran the script the information showed up. Not sure this would help you?!?

Hi Boutty, I was aware of that I ran into that early in my problem mode LOL But quickly realized that was a problem. Between that and having to realign the offset through me for a while until I kept playing with it so it would be on the border and not unseen or in the middle of the pic. Thanks for the heads up though. But problem solved, It was Cs doing something I guess because once Mike pointed me to Raw shooter problem solved and a great program found! So I guess it was a good thing to run into these problems otherwise I would have never found Raw shooter thanks to Mike:-)

It's more simple than you think :)

If you want, make a copy of his default.txt file for a backup. Now, run the script in Photoshop and when the window appears, make any changes you want. In this case, just uncheck the option to flatten the layers. Now, rather than clicking "Run", click the "save" button and choose default.txt and overwrite it.

Now whenever you run it, it'll default to NOT flattening the layers (and anything else you may want to change, such as putting your name in the signature spot, etc)

One question though. Is it possible to use it for a batch action? I can't seem to get it to work for more than one image at a time. If I try to batch it then the frame script screen comes up for every image so I'm locked out of automation.

Mike, fantastic work. It has been exciting watching this develop over the last few weeks. It has gotten so good, that I am hesitant to criticize it or make suggestions, but I have seen that you are very open to such critiques, so here goes:

1. How about adding an inner shadow option for the matte? It makes it look like the frame is casting a shadow. It is a very easy additional step that I have taken on most of the pictures that I have "framed" with your script. I set the angle to 135 deg, and set the distance and size appropriate for the size of the image. See this link for an example:
http://photography-on-the.net/forum/showthread.php?t=77645

2. When using the beveled matte option, the picture and the matte end up on the same layer, even if "Flatten image" is unchecked (why in the world would someone want to flatten the image at this point is beyond me, but it is fantastic that it is offered as an option). Is there a reason that the matte and the image can't end up on separate layers here?

Keep up the great work. I wish I had 1% of your talent.

mickle
14th of June 2005 (Tue), 02:30
Not actually sure what your question is, but to select a different font you need to use the postscript name of the font you require. There is an included script in the zip archive that will look for all the fonts on your system and compile a list of them all including the postscript name for each one. It places this list in the root of your hard drive.

Look in the Fontlister folder after you have extracted the zip, it includes instructions for doing it.

If this isn't what you were asking, then please let me know.

Also, i'd like to change the default matte size. If you could work out how to put the defaults in a seperate file so we don't lose them when we upgrade to the latest version that'd be perfect :)

When you first run the script it saves the default file. First time round it will have my name in it because it is in the script. If you want different defaults then run the script, set it up how you want it and then press Save. Just overwrite the default.txt file. You don't need to alter anything in the actual script at all.

As for keeping the original default file when you upgrade, I'm afaraid it is not always possible due to the fact that if I add extra checkboxes, options etc, the file size changes completely. I know it can be a pain, sorry.
