Would anyone like to give comment or critique?

This was taken by a friend of mine, of his son, using my G5 - I'm guilty for the post-processing but felt that the Colour on B&W treatment helped to isolate the subject personally I found the green reflection to the right a little distracting.

I realise that there is a little "burning out" on the face an also the hands and I'm currently trying to clone/heal the areas without very much success.

David

I like the shot. I would suggest you didn't go far enough with the black & white. You should continue around the front of the large rock and get that section as weel. Leaving only the boy and the largest of the rocks would look great.

imho i fell the background is to busy needs to be more out of focus also the hand is slightly overexposed and could do with a little attention clone from the other hand might do it
hope this helps

Thanks for the advice about the rocks - I'll give it a go.

I kind of like #2.( Since you didn't shoot it, I won't suggest that you should have included some grass!) ;-)

Frank, I knew there was something missing - a nice clump at the bottom right would give the overall image a nice follow through on the diagonal! LOL ;)

After that day with my G5 in his hands the guy who took it is hooked on digital, his wife is sick of hearing his "good points" if we go for a DSLR camera! LOL  Needless to say my name is MUD!

Cheers Everyone!

Needless to say my name is MUD!: Maybe it's time to put the 20D in her hands? ;)

David, I think this works very well.
Sometimes selective desaturation looks unnatural. Just gimmicky.
This, on the other hand, looks right.

I think I might use the linear graduation tool in quick mask mode to gradually remove the colour from the top of the large stone to the base of the shot.
For me the yellow highlighted colours on the three large stones upsets the balance slightly.
Not total desaturation, but slight and gradual.

I know some might disagree since the stones are a focal point.

Cameron,
You might be right! It's certainly something which I hadn't spotted until you suggested it. I also agree that the stones are a focal point but they are quite bright.

Thanks for your input.
