Just recieved the 1D MK II and would like to know the general concensus on initial charging.
As I remember the 10D was to charge until full and continue charging for 1 hour.

Also what is the best way to condition the battery for the first few charges.

Thanks for your help.

You could try reading http://batteryuniversity.com , but every electronic device i've ever owned has said "charge the battery fully before using".

Some people have fully charged and then fully discharged the battery about 3 times in a row to condition the battery before use (they must have a lot of patience 'cuz I could never wait that long to use my new camera ;) ). But you can also just fully charge the battery and then just use it in the camera until it runs low. Then attach it to the charger and press the "Discharge" button on the charger to full discharge it. After the battery is fully discharge, the charger will automatically charge it up again. Just remember to go through this routine of charge/use/discharge the first three times you charge the battery to condition it.

I ran mine through 3 cycles of discharge and charge. I get about 1200 shots per charge. You can also do it by running down the battery by using it. Failure to do one or the other results in decreased capacity that is never fully recovered.
